GR86 GR86 Demo and Press Cars

BTW: arent the UK cars affected by the recall?

Oh for sure you’d be a bit special if you cancelled now but I don’t think people should drop their standards of a car buying experience just because we’re privileged to have one of 400. It’s not a GT3 ffs, I’d like to drive a vehicle before taking delivery that is going to cost over 30k at the end of the day. If that upsets someone that hasn’t ordered one then they’re thin skinned.

I understand that, but at the current situation its just not possible.

After two years of pandemic, many dead people, war in ukraine, chip crysis, ect, we should accept, that some people are thin skinned.

I bet Clapton threw his rattle out of the pram when Ferrari told him his local wouldn’t have an Enzo demonstrator. Poor chap even had to go to Italy to collect it!

Here is Mr. Clapton, reflecting on his many poor choices:

If it's a brake actuator thing - that may only apply to LHD cars (like Italy in the above link) rather than being the same as Japanese built RHD ones as the brake master cylinder doesn't move between LHD / RHD.
Just a thought.

Just back from a catch up with the salesperson at JRT in Hull who I have been dealing with , their demo car (Red Manual) has no ETA at the dealership although it’s believed to be in the U.K. looking like it’s caught up in the rumoured recall issue. Once they have their demo car the 4 folk with confirmed orders will be offered a test drive ASAP. Three of those folk are forum members so there is one more to track down for the obligatory “Humber Bridge” photo opportunity 😉

Forgot to mention.

Another bit of info was that demo cars are actually owned by the dealership but they cannot sell them until they get the say so from Toyota U.K. It will be interesting to see how many end up on “general sale” , I was chatting to a guy at SCITP who had a Focus RS Heritage Edition in “Deep Orange” apparently the last 50 made for the U.K. and only a handful ever became available to the general public , most went people within the dealership network, the guy managed to secure one and did a lot of calling to find his.

As my designated dealer had told me they were getting their demonstrator in on 13th July, and I'd not heard anything, I dropped them an email asking if there were any updates. They got straight back to me, and now think it'll be the end of the month. I didn't bother to ask which month, as I doubt they know anymore than any of us do!

Hi @Nick , I had a missed call from a number I didn't recognise during a work meeting today and did wonder if our local dealer was calling about some delay or other. Perhaps your email prompted them reaching out to us. No message left and I didn't call back so none the wiser. Might be unrelated of course.

Useful to have the update re. the demo in any case so thanks for that! (y)

I completely forgot to say I had a call last week from our dealer, can confirm he said to me August is when they're expecting their demo.

From what I understand, the first round of demos won't be going to a specific dealer per se. There's going to be a group of 5 or so cars that are going to tour dealerships in the UK and you'll need to book a slot when they are at your chosen dealership (or closest to that).

Hope one of the demo cars gets the ferry to Northern Ireland for a quick visit…✌️

Interesting catch up call with my local dealer where my GR86 will be delivered. They are still expecting a demo car as it is showing on their system. It was news to them that there will only be 5 U.K. demo cars which will be doing a “tour” and all of the other demo cars have been sold to online customers by Toyota U.K. So if the “only 5 demo cars“ is correct it looks like the dealers are out of the loop again 🤷‍♂️

What was the source of that info? I phoned my dealer the other day and they reckoned they had one on the way too.
