GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

Has anyone else had trouble getting a test drive? I phoned up my nearest available demo today and they have said that I’d need to swap my collection location over to them if I want a test drive. Doesn’t seem right to me?! They are the same franchise (Steven Eagell ) not sure if this is common practice? But they asked me to contact Toyota GB to swap over my collection dealership…not sure I want to do this but at the same time I’d like to test drive.!
I’ve had similar experience.
My original nominated dealer was Inchcape in Nottingham, rang them about a test drive and they told me they don’t have a demonstrator and to speak to Inchcape in Derby. Rang Derby and they were not interested, said I could look at the car and ’if’ someone was available I could test drive it but wouldn’t make a definite appointment, they advised I should speak to Nottingham dealer to make an appointment. Spoke to Notts dealer who said they would try and sort something but never came back to me.

I then spoke to Vertu in Leicester who said I could test drive their car if they were the nominated dealer! As I was not that impressed with Inchcape I changed my order to Vertu and test drove their car last weekend!

This is my first experience of buying a Toyota and to be honest I’m not at all impressed with any of the dealerships, the good thing being I was really impressed with the car I test drove and am looking forward to getting my hands on it and enjoying the car.

It's because they don't want to do the test drive unless they get the £500.

Toyota phoned me confirming my order,he asked me if I had any questions I replied and said I had been to the dealership in Derby and they would not let me road test the car,he replied and said that is nonsense and all demo gr 86 are available for road test.He said he would contact the dealer and get them to phone me back, that was 10 days ago and I have had no phone call.

Is that what the dealers get for the handover? Guess not much profit for the dealer by the time they prep the car, give you tea and biscuit and staff time for handover. They probably make some if you took their service plan.

That's what I've heard.
I bet a lot of dealers are pi**ed off with it.
The GR86 is in short supply and sold out, so the dealers couldn't have sold them at list price and kept maybe 10% profit, maybe £3200, so £500 will have annoyed them.

The stealers dealers have had it far too good for years, now they’re feeling the pinch of online buying and it smarts. As L/Cpl Jones says in Dad’s Army “They don’t like it up em!”

Gone are the days you could go in and haggle and play a dealer against another and have your car within 2 weeks.
Now no haggling, pay sticker price or leave, and wait 18 months for a kia.
At least you get free mats, can't even haggle for tank of petrol

There are still some deals to be had, but depends on make and time of year I guess.
I helped a friend get £900 off a new Mini and that was a factory order.
We used Carwow to play a couple of Mini dealers off against each other.
Despite them saying 6 months build time, it turned up after 2 and a half, so maybe supply chain issues are improving.

So, ordered the car last Sunday and the My Toyota App. is now saying "Left the Factory" so I was wondering if anyone would know the rough timescale for it landing at the dealers from this point.
Cheers

Call Toyota online for an update, they can tell you the name of the boat it's on, then you can track it to Bristol port.
After Bristol it's sent to the Toyota factory at Derby for checks, then sent to your dealer. Seems to take about a month from landing at the docks.

Yeah I did that today. He said the App would provide that information once it's loaded. Not that it matters too much I suppose, unless Sky News tells me a car transporter has sunk crossing the Med

Cheers for that, I'll give them a call. Hope we don't get a container ship stuck across the Suez Canal again:cry:

App doesn’t give much info other than the last location the car was booked into.
Online need to tell your the ship and can give you an estimate but you are best tracking the boat and look at my signature for what time mine took as an example.

Hello, you dirty little so and so....

On a scale out of 10, how scratched is my car going to be? :ROFLMAO:

Me: Can you tell the dealer not to fit the rear plate, I want to stick it on as I will be changing them to a shorter 5 digit plate at some point.
Toyota Online: Sure, no problem I'll make a note on your file.
Me: thanks....

At least they didn't put the screws in a stupid place

Glad your car is almost with you Mick.

Hope they treat it with care before handing over to your good self...

@Silver Fox Hopefully they take care of it. I've had no contact from them yet.

It's supposedly been there since the 19th June according to an email (and MyT) from Toyota Online, they took my remaining payment on 27th. Hopefully I get it sometime this week.

It's the first time I've seen a GR86 in person :ROFLMAO:

Always worth asking the dealer as well as toyota online about the plates before delivery. I knew I wanted JDM style plates so those screw holes would have not worked for me.

Thankfully my dealer/sales exec were spot on and did exactly as I’d requested on the don’t fit plates/don’t remove plastic/don’t wash it front. I think Toyota online are only half the problem on that front as from what I can make out they have some internal comms to the dealer. As a result there are multiple points where it can go sideways. Toyota online, sales exec/dealership admin and then the workshop/valeting bay if they’ve not read any notes associated with plastic/plates/wash.

Lesson learned on my part.

I just want the damn thing now I've seen it. Haha
