GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

I've just called for an update to be told that Toyota are prioritising getting demonstrators out to the GR centres as they've had overwhelming feedback that customers want to test drive cars as a priority.
Who on earth is in their focus group???? We have almost half of the UK buyers on here and none of us have been asked that question. Also, there are only a select few on here that are wanting to test drive before committing to buying one. Toyota know their wait list will snap up a car without test driving too so they are clearly making things up. It's like a corporate company getting a table tennis set because of feedback that morale is low because of being overworked.

I suspect there might be a financial reason they want to roll the car into January.
Can't imagine it being financial, that would pus things back to April and the new financial year. January is the start of Q4 but most metrics will still be about an annual figure.

These cars won’t arrive until 2023. Load of old nonsense about demos I mean are they seriously saying they can’t PDI more than a couple of cars every week!! I imagine they will get released to fit in with the MD’s annual bonus !

And it not like every dealer is getting loads. Mine is only getting mine. I really don't understand it being a transport issue. I really hope it's not a case of trying to save cash and waiting to get full loads to dealers

Two weeks today, according to the only "official" info I have. I'm sure I'll hear something today, there's no way a company like Toyota would leave its customers in the dark that close to a date they'd given them. Right guys?

Right?

Guys?

My concern with demo cars being rolled out first is that we know there are over 100 cars waiting for customer delivery in the UK already. The real figure might be closer to 150-200 as not everyone is a forum member and posts here.

If the rumour of 5 demo cars being available is true and we all get to experience the welcoming treatment from the dealers or Toyota we've had so far, I don't see most of us test driving those cars before March at the pace things are moving today.

Are they gonna wait until every customer had test driven one as well?

These decisions make no sense and take away so much from the experience. It leaves a very sour feeling. Lets hope the rumours aren't true and we get our deliveries this month, I'm sure that will happen...

Guys, in other EU countries there is/was no such demo car bullshit. Why you would think going to be different in UK?

I was kidding when I said I might wait for the new March 23 numberplate, if it's January planned delivery for us early birds, then waiting till March for a new registration plate may still be a reality :(

Finance offer was only valid til 31/12 wasn’t it….
Well if that is truly the case I will fund the car another way, they won't make a penny more out of me. Given their approach to this car so far, I've already committed to servicing outside of Toyota due to their ludicrous price hike and poor attitude, I might as well deny them finance too.

My car left Portbury in early Sept according to the app and is still shown as in transit to the online retailer. I guess it’s got lost or stolen !

I think most people do want a test drive. Not one of them personally.

If you have a strong feeling please vote and I'll mention the results when I next get fed up and call Toyota.

Don’t need a test drive but this is my worst ever buying experience of purchasing a new car If online sales are the future count me out.

Almost certain I will flip this car now. I really feel for all you Guys who's car has been here for months. Mine is still order processing.
If I can secure a new Type R I will do that. Deliveries have started in the US with some Dealers asking a $20k markup!

I wonder if a few of us writing about the appalling failures of Toyota UK to the following address will help. I’m inclined to write to them about their failure to train and maintain their UK staff. At least just to vent my anger and frustration…

I've been thinking about this and now I'm a bit annoyed.

There's a sense with this of Toyota GB staff trying to blame people who want to test drive the car before committing, for delaying the deliveries.

This is unacceptable.

New cars are, for most of us, the second most expensive purchase we will ever make. It is a time honoured principle of buying a car - new or used - to be able to test drive it. If we are committing ourselves to 3-4 year finance packages it's quite right to want to be happy with the car before committing.

I'm happy to accept the car without a test drive for two reasons - I loved my GT86, and I have had the chance to sit in and poke around the GR86 earlier this year so I could check that I fit, ergonomics, driving position etc.

People who are 6 feet four, and/or who want to check the boot space with seats up or down, and/or who have kids, and/or who have only ever driven FWD turbo hatches and want to check the driving characteristics etc. etc., are quite right to want to experience the car first.

Test drives have always been offered and promoted as an opportunity by Toyota UK and (in many cases) dealers so it's not like folk are being unreasonable by requesting one.

To confer blame and attempt to incite guilt for wanting a test drive because it will delay all deliveries is poor form, and those responsible can get in the f**king sea.

Yes, agreed. To clarify, I was being a bit tongue in cheek earlier. If there were any delays for test drives, it's not the fault of those wanting them. I hope it's just another case of poor information and communication, it would be insane to make everyone wait for their cars which are already here, until they've all had a go in the 5 demo cars touring the country or whatever.

Just give everyone the option - take can take your car now, or, if you wish we can hold it until you've had a chance to test drive a demo, but it might take longer. Surely everyone is happy then.

Well I hope you're right, but so far, it's not exactly like we're following the lead of EU countries. Otherwise surely we'd be receiving the cars already.

Morning @Conscript - certainly no criticism of your posts meant (apologies if it looks like there was); more a pop at the Toyota staff promoting this narrative.

Your proposal/solution sounds sensible to me (so probably won't be considered!).

Just received the follow, someone else mentioned this already but looks like they require approval from the customer.

"I hope you are excited to take delivery of your new Toyota!

We are required to let you know that as part of the finance underwriting process, Toyota Financial Services will complete a follow-up credit check before your finance is completed.

This is due to the time since your original proposal being more than 90 days.

Please kindly confirm by response to this email if you are happy for the follow-up credit check to be processed.

Please rest assured the credit check will not be actioned until the vehicle arrives at "

I tried to pay at the start of this week and was placed on hold for a couple of mins, then told they won't be taking payments until they are closer to release🤷‍♂️

Everyone has the right to test drive of course, but delaying for this reason is terrible, knowing the car should be ready every day is just adding to the frustration.

I would much rather have a call that my car can be sent to dealership for collection, and at the point have the opportunity to say im waiting for the demo car to be in my area.
