GR86 GR86 Anyone thinking of a roof wrap?

A vey messy attempt to create an all black roof wrap with a bit of photo editing on an iPad 🙂

If anyone can do any better (not that hard to do🤣) feel free to have a go. I needed to be able to ”clone” the black on the roof but couldn’t do that on the iPad

I’d be tempted to try and DIY it considering it’s probably the easiest panel to do. What’s the worst that could happen right?

I consider myself fairly handy both generally and with cars; I tried to wrap a car once, starting with the roof. 🤬 me it was hard and could not get it remotely crease free, looked awful.
In the end I sheepishly took the wrap I had down to a local wrap place and they sorted it.

Haha fair enough. To be fair I really struggled to put a big sticker for a rally on without creases/bubbles so you might have a point.. picking up a car from being PPFd today so will see if they could so it as part of ppfing the car

Spoke to the PPF guy and apparently you can now get black PPF that'll do the colour change and gives a more glassy finish than vinyl. Pretty sure this is what I'm going to do will. Hopefully can post results in July 🤞

I've been looking into wrap colours (it's the reason ive changed my order to black, hoping for a partial instead of a full!)

I'm loving the look of post 23, but instead of the blue... Im thinking Avery Supreme Radioactive Green because im an attention seeker! Paired eventually with either a black duckbill or some ridiculous after market offering (As you've probably imagined from the green... subtle isnt my strong point!)

This is of course all hypothetical, I think the Mrs would still prefer I picked up something like the RAV4.

Check out the Supra forum a Wasabi green one in there , definitely not for the shy retiring types 😂

If any of you guys have Gran Turismo 7 it's a great way to mock up these changes. It's what helped me choose blue in the first place.

I must admit, getting it in black then wrapping everything but the roof is mighty tempting and could even work out cheaper than starting with a premium colour and doing PPF (although as I understand it vinyl doesnt protect quite as well from stonechips)

Based on the pics from post #1 with a Crystal Black car as the base, have been quoted the following (in case people are interested).

Thanks for your query.

We can offer a full external wrap to a Toyota GR86 in 3M Gloss Light Green or 3M Gloss Bright orange for approx. £1,950 plus vat. This wouldn’t include the roof, wingmirrors or gloss black bumper areas.

Installation time would be 5 days. Currently booking 2 to 3 weeks in advance.

We have very recently wrapped a Tesla in the Green if you wanted to take a look, click on the link and scroll down, you will not miss it! We have also just wrapped a Honda in the Bright Orange but I am still waiting on pics to be sorted!

How does a partial wrap affect paint colour🤔 I'm thinking of a complete roof wrap , it may not be forever , but will the non wrapped paint fade compared to the wrapped areas🤔 My car will be garaged so will only see sunlight when it's actually been driven. Anyone got first hand experience 🤔

You shouldn't have any issues, modern paints are extremely durable from fading and most good single colour wraps have atleast a 5 year life.

Got a quote of £220 + vat to apply black PPF to the roof. Pretty sure that's the route I'll go down esp as I'll be getting partial ppf on the front anyway

Worth following Max Orido on Instagram. He had a red and a blue one on his page regularly he's tuning and has a roof wrap.
This is the guy who did the roof warp on Max’s car

Was that the entire roof and Front and rear pillars etc or just roof centre section 🤔

Just the roof.

Partial wrap for these other areas will be clear. £1500 + vat
Front bumper

-Bonnet

-Front wings

-Wing mirrors

-Headlights

-A-pillars

-Partial rocker panel section

-Rear bumper impact section (sits just behind the rear wheel)

Saw this on my way into town and it looked great with the black roof 👍 In the flesh the red looked a lot deeper than in the photo which just shows how difficult it is to choose a colour from just photos 🤔
