GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

A part of me always thinks that the RC spec is the one to go for. It's less complex, has fewer things to break, no clutch packs to overheat, etc., and lacks the incredibly annoying assists.

No clutch pack? How does that work?

I see from the TGR Japan website that fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (WLTP) are both around 15% higher for the auto version with respect to the manual one, it's quite huge difference, and more points to going for the manual car then.
The Mk2 manual car CO2 emissions are in line with the Mk1 manual values.

I meant no clutch packs that overheat from having to drive the diff. I was under the impression that the RC doesn’t get the torsen diffs.

It's the AWD clutch pack that is prone to overheating, not the torsen diffs. The only way to avoid the clutch pack is to buy the FWD version.

and Rally2 car does not have the center pack so maybe for RC it could be left out completely?

All 500 GRY Mk2 allocated to Italy are already gone in less than two days, order books are now closed with no hint about future allocations, at least by now.

No problem selling at the new inflated prices. I reckon they could of sold for even more money and still filled the order books the way they are going.

I see it this way: Akio Toyoda had a fascinating idea. He executed that idea brilliantly. They invested a ton of money to bring the Gen1 car to the public, and most people here understand it was offered at well below research&development cost. Homologation rules, COVID, interest rates, whatever the factors were for that bargain.

People who were able to pick up one of those cars were very fortunate back then. Congratulations to you early adopters! You did great, be proud of yourselves!

Toyota GR was then super successful in the races, which created some very valuable marketing effects to the brand. Yes, it did attract a new target group, and I’m now watching lots of cool Rallye videos. And the old Walter Röhrl content. Love it!

Now, the second generation came out, with some valuable lessons learnt and improvements. The cars are still limited, which also adds to their appeal. Now basic economics kick in. Supply/demand/pricing…

Why would they sell this new model again for a well-below cost price? Would you do that if you owned that company and saw the enormous success of the past? Is that “inflated”? “Price-gouging?” No, it’s a re-evaluation of the true value of this car. The gen1 prices will certainly go up, or at least stay very stable, because it’s still a great car, and it’s rare.

Those people who pay the new price, also contribute to the development expenses of the first gen car. I am very very happy to do that. Looking forward to participate here and learn about these gems of automotives. In a world of more and more electric, dynamic cruise control boredom, where more and more people don’t even know how to drive a car in the first place. Let them push their autopilot buttons, I won’t be one of them.

Whatever happened to BMW’s “sheer driving pleasure” / “Freude am Fahren”?
Toyota keeps it alive. BMW not so much. How much car do you get in a BMW today for 60K?

Btw what was the pricing in Italy?

In Euros:

GRY Manual: 52,000
GRY Auto: 55,000
Forged Wheels: 4,000
Tech Pack: 1,500
Registration Tax: 1,000
All colours Included in Basic Price

Special Editions: 75,000

To make a comparison with the Mk1, an Mk2 Manual with Forged Wheels comes at 56k Euros, an increase of 10k (or 22%) with respect to the last price of Mk1 in Italy (46k Euros).
Quite an huge increase, indeed.

I honestly don't see the appeal myself. 20 grand more to look like its crashed into Halfords. I wish they had just sent the RC version here.
Exactly, I'm longing for the RC myself as well... But I'm afraid it'd be the same story as for the Imprezas Spec C in the 90s, you need to import here in Europe with hassles of any kind (and huge expenses). Maybe in the UK could they be imported more easily?
If yes, that would be another valid reason for me to finally go back to the UK.:)

If the MK1 had a "normal" price of lets say 45K a few years ago, nobody would complain about 50K now. This car was just too damn cheap and a "one off" Event.
A few years ago I Just had not enough Cash to afford a new drivers car and for the MK1 I was late to the game 😅.
Just my oppinion but I would never finance or lease a car. Either I have the money or I have to buy something cheaper.
So this time Im in for the MK2 day 1 and put the money on the table.
Being 1 time super stupid in my life and buy a new car haha

I'm proudly part of the "super stupid" club as well... 😅 Actually, one of the 500 ordered in Italy is mine, keep it a secret... 🤫
