GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

What's everybody hoping for from this update (let's just assume it's happening at this point)?

I suspect a lot of current owners don't really want a face-lifted version – which is why there's a lot of pessimism about a new GR in this thread.

A new one might make the original feel a bit less special – i.e. less of a limited-edition-last-hurrah-ICE-homologation-sold-at-a-loss-etc. On the flip side, it could also make the original car more desirable, depending on what they change. Fair play to Toyota though. You've gotta admire their direction of travel with Gazoo Racing.

There are clearly lots of owners who've bought the GR Yaris as a long term investment or as a fun car that might be more resistant to heavy depreciation. It'll be interesting to see what what happens to used values if/when the new GR is announced (ignoring the broader used car market price trends).

As someone who isn't really interested in a mild upgrade, an auto box, isn't looking to sell anytime soon, and isn't rich enough not to care about heavy depreciation – here's my dream scenario:
  1. The face-lifted car is released purely as an auto and the styling is slightly tweaked. Being totally selfish, I hope they slightly mess up the bumpers (like that horrible render above with the Halfords-special canards). This will only make the original more desirable. Failing that, I'm quite happy if it doesn't come to the UK.
  2. The face-lifted car is priced at £40k. Although, I can imagine the new version being rarer without the cheap interest rates and with a higher base price.
  3. Ideally, the new parts upgrade program will be widely available to UK customers and will allow current owners to make warranty approved upgrades. As someone who prefers OEM+ cars, it would be great to get a proper solution to the seating position. (My lowering kit works, but it's a bit shonky and it's a shame to add the weight to the car). I'd be keen to improve the throttle response, increase the mid range torque, add more rear bias to sport mode (the Kinto programme in the UK). An upgraded GR exhaust that actually makes a noise would go down a storm too – I'm thinking something like the JCW tuning package you could buy for the R53 Mini Cooper S. I'm also hoping this stuff would be priced more fairly than some of the aftermarket upgrades that come with added GR tax.

seeing as the interior of GR YARIS is based on the Yaris, I think it will look something like the below. I don’t think the front and rear lights will be any different from the standard 2024 Yaris either.

with few tweaks you can manage both of these. Geometry is key in car handling.
Revolution garage implied that adding rear bias actually made understeer worse so its it matter of system balance.

In my car mid range torque is rather sweet at the moment but requires few upgrades. Its a matter of HW + managing boost.

mk2 is an interesting topic as it is the 3rd read topic in this section on the forum.

Wonder how many people are trying to edit those smoked pictures. must be a few. :D

If, and only if, the new bumper is better looking, by the looks of it I suspect it will be plug and play "facelift bumper upgrade".

At some point I will probably smash mine anyway so would be nice to have a choice

I tried playing with the levels in Photoshop.. it didn't reveal anything.. 😀

Anyone who’s purchased a modern car as a long term investment hasn’t got a clue about investments. There are better and safer ways to make money than on a car.

I echo your 3 points to be honest! I kind of hope (and suspect) that they would look to make some money this time and so the face-lift (doesn’t look radical enough for a mk2, not even close) may lose a few ‘special’ bits as they look to drive down the cost at the same time as increasing the price. This could see the original car being even more desirable. I can’t really see a realistic scenario where we would suddenly see heavy depreciation on the original car. It’s not like they are about the launch an improved car at £30k on 0% finance are they!

Let’s wait and see if and when it is sold, but I have no interest in changing mine at all. An official Toyota- endorsed GRC-spec engine upgrade package, however……..!

you can always just swap the head or springs. or swap the whole car.

Cheers mate! Looking at this pics the new car seems to still have a carbon roof. The nasty side of me was hoping GR would dump the carbon roof and Ali panels on the facelift ala GR Corolla. You know, keep the Mk1 the homologation car and all that.
