GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

60k is insane if that’s the case. I struggled to justify 45k, glad I did now but still think the interior quality could be improved without much difficulty for that price. Very scratchy and plasticy. There’s definitely not 15k worth of extra car on the SE ones so if you’re going to buy to use and not store I’d just get a regular one. Albeit the GRMN will have a few extra goodies you’ll probably only notice on a track day I guess.
They had the very high price point for mk1 grmn so would be amazed if this time it was anything different.

There is now quite many different special limited models and adding a new one is just making the old specials less special. Wish they did bring something new for that potential GRMN and not just mechanical diffs and new mk2 components. Lets see what has been the level of effort.

I’d prefer it if they just launched a range of GRMN parts that we could rails by in Europe.

There was a possible GRMN corolla also running at the ring so could we have a GRMN Yaris and Corolla under the covers.
I do agree, GRMN parts via official dealers would be rather nice move. much bigger impact to enthusiasts than just bringing one more collector car.
Though, almost all those parts change the emissions for the car so it is quite big ask for manufacturer, excluding of course chassis/cabin stuff.

This would be cool, especially the wing, I do like that a lot but would much rather a genuine one.

Since the theme for the GR presentation at TAS is "Car Manufacturing at Nürburgring", I'm guessing it could be the new GRMN Yaris under one of those covers.
But @markku you’re aware that I’ve trademarked this already😉

Interesting to see pricing of that new GRMN and if it will be sold to EU/UK. Guessing similar price as special editions and better spec sheet ie Toyota looting
Of course, and if it will come to Europe, it will be interesting to see whether some of them will be sold to ordinary customers like us.

Mandatory premise: I have no actual proofs of what follows, but just circumstantial suspects.
In my very humble opinion this thing that in Europe many Toyota subsidiaries look like they reserve limited edition for designated people, based upon some questionable "influencing" criteria, should be reported to Toyota Japan in a form of "class complaint".
As far as I know, GRMNs and Special Editions in Japan have been assigned through a open lottery.
Even a lottery can be manipulated, of course, but it's for sure a fairer starting point than what I've been informally told in Italy once I was in the process of ordering my Mk2: "Special Edition cars? No chances to order one" (my reaction in classic Italian language: 🤌🤌🤌??)
Maybe it was the person who told me that, who had wrong infos, but actually I don't know about anyone who could order a Special Edition in Italy.
I'd be really happy if someone from Italy on this forum could prove me wrong on this, really.

Since I'm starting considering to add an Auto Mk2 to my garage (sadly my beloved Fiesta ST will likely make place to it), I'd like to at least have a chance to consider one special edition (GRMN?) this time, if I won't be out-priced by it, of course (very likely).
I guess I'll have a bit more chances at least for dreaming about one once I'd finally move back to Switzerland...

Here’s what I gathered from the latest issue of Best Car:

GRMN Yaris II

• Overview: The GRMN Yaris builds on its rally-inspired design, reinforcing its sporty image. For the 2025 model debut (March), Toyota is expected to further enhance the vehicle with advanced features and body improvements.

• Key Features:

• Power Unit: 1.6L 3-cylinder turbocharged engine.

• Transmission: 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic (GR-DAT).

• Drivetrain: All-wheel drive (AWD).

• Focus on Performance: Toyota is employing lightweight materials, structural adhesives, and additional braces to improve body rigidity and reduce weight.

• Targeted Upgrades: Enhanced braking performance, aerodynamic features, and racing-specific components.

So, more or less the same approach they took with the MK1 GRMN, except this time it includes an auto option too. However, unless there’s an error in the translation, it mentions a debut in March, which means it won’t be unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 10th?

If that’s the case, then what are the teased, covered GR Yaris models at the Tokyo Auto Salon?

Thank you @6mt, great preview.

It looks like the cars under the covers could have a curved fin like the one added to the GRMNY on the side of the front bumper, actually.
Maybe it could be that they introduce these new models on 10th January, and then the official launch will be in March, like it happened (if I recall well) for the Mk2 GRY in TAS 2024?

Good catch. I probably confused the debut with the unveiling.

Thanks for that info.

I’m thinking GRMN Yaris and Corolla at the front of the stand and if you notice the 3rd car is on a podium with the supra and referencing the Nurburgring. Could it be a new N24 / VLN car?

noted its rated 310hp so higher than mk2?

Does anyone know whether the MK1 handbrake feature, that gets the rear axle disconnected, exists in MK2? I have just played around with the handbreak in the new car and did not seem like it's there..

What makes you think that? I’ve been using the handbrake this evening in the snow whilst applying throttle and it behaved as expected 180 in the road sliding the rear wheels round.

I just don't get the characteristic (and very metallic) sound of the MK1 handbrake while pulling it, the one that felt like an instant disconnect. I didn't test it in an aggressive 180deg though, to be able to comment more.
