GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

I had my GPF removed today. Fabricated onto my stock exhaust, I opted for straight through instead of a resonator one. Sounds better on cold start, not asbo at all then when it settles it’s no different, it’s a bit louder under load though which is nicer but no drone cruising.

Throttle response is way better, and it seems to run smoother too. I’m still not revving out yet though as only just run in and need to have the oil dropped before I open her up.

I do have an annoying reverb at around 3.5-4k rpm coming through some of the internal panels, that was already there but not had chance to work out what it is. It’s worse now so will have to work it out.

I’ve also bought some Bola 17inch wheels in Matt bronze for winter, I’m assured by Bola they fit but will report back if the don’t. They’re not the lightest but I wanted rally style to protect the calipers a bit.

BTW the GPF restriction is insane! Below is a picture and the filter runs end to end of the resonator.

Hey, thanks for the feedback on GPF, can't wait to change mine! Sounds good !

If the Bola do not fit and you want that style in 17. EvoCorse RallyZero in 17x8 does fit.

Nice to know. What ET?
ET30

Evocorse has them specifically for gr Yaris on the website.. there is also option for black and anthracite on website too.

Don't know if those one was already posted here

Im thinking about visiting a dealer tomorrow get a test drive in a new AT model. Still haven't seen or driven a Mk2 yet and this does look pretty good to me. Actually buying one is unlikely though considering their current prices.

Anybody see this?

Two mysterious GR Yaris released? TGR announces Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 overview

On December 26, 2024, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (hereinafter referred to as TGR) revealed the outline of Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 (hereinafter referred to as TAS25).

TGR will exhibit at TAS25, which will be held at Makuhari Messe for three days from January 10 to 12, 2025.

In previous years, TGR exhibited in the East Hall, but this time the exhibition venue has been moved to the North Hall along with Daihatsu.

In addition, we have been exhibiting at a separate booth from the Toyota body so far, but the "Rankle BASE", which proposes the fun of Rankle's custom, is installed in the TGR booth.

It seems that they are planning to hold talk shows and demo runs by various performers during the exhibition period.

From 9:30 on the 10th, we will hold a press conference with the main theme of "Car Manufacturing at the Nürburgring (hereinafter referred to as Nürburgring)", which will be the origin of TGR and master driver Morizo (Chairman Shoo Toyoda).

Nur said that it is the origin of TGR and Morizo, and in 2007, Hiroshi Naruse, a master driver at the time, and a teacher in Morizo driving, said, "The race is the best stage as a place to pass on technology and develop human resources." It was triggered by the first participation in the Nur 24-hour endurance race with the feelings of the Nur.

At that time, our employees served as drivers and engineers, and the participating vehicles were challenged by a handmade team called modified second-hand Altezza.

At this auto salon, the "TOYOTA ALTEZZA No. 109 (2007 Nur 24h vehicle)" used at that time and the "Toyota Supra (Nürburguri) used by Morizo in driving training in Nur It is said that it will exhibit "Nku training vehicles" and express the origin of TGR's philosophy of "making better cars starting with motor sports".

In other talk shows, with the theme of "Challenge to Nur", various projects in which Morizo and TGR drivers who are active in Japan and abroad appear, such as projects where professional drivers, evaluation drivers, and engineers talk about the past and the future. Schedule.

In addition, at the outdoor venue, Morizo, Yari-Mati Ratbara TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team team representative, Yuha Kankunen TGR-WRRT team representative, Norihiko Katsuta, etc. Demo runs using rally vehicles and concept models of rally vehicles are also planned.

In addition, in the booth image of the TAS25 released this time, the two cars with veils caught the eye.

From its appearance, it can be seen that it is related to "GR Yaris", but what are its characteristics? Attention is also paid to the announcement on the day.

The big stories for me at TAS2025 are whether we see new Celica and MR2
A MR2 with a performance engine like the G16E-GTS or one of those upcoming 2L Turbo engines and that is kinda affordable would be the absolute hit with me.

A Celica revival I would be more neutral about. Depends on the looks and specs.

On another front. I was at the dealership and got to drive an automatic Mk2. I found the transmission to be pretty good to be honest but I'm not used to DCT or ZF8 stuff either so I can't compare it to those. It did everything I wanted it to do and showed no other flaws to me. That's good enough.
I was surprised though how hard the car pulled. Those 280 horses were definitely there and I assume even a bit more when I compare it to mine with the DTE tuning box.

But trading mine and then still having to pay 30K € on top for one is an absolute no-go. Even the dealer had to admit that these prices are a bit over the top. A few bills more and you are in Supra territory.

AFAIK, there will be no MR2 anytime soon, according to Best Car’s most recent podcast.

Only a Celica. A mid engine one, apparently, with AWD.
I mean if it's mid-engined it doesn't really matter what it's called though it would be very odd to use the Celicia nameplate instead of MR2 for it.

I’m guessing it’s because the MR2 was never AWD.

It seems pretty certain they’re going with the Celica name—Best Car’s track record with these predictions is impeccable.

The stand image shows 3 GRY under covers which seems excessive? Maybe a generic image to keep us off the trail. Would be cool a new GRMN, Celica and MR2.

Since the theme for the GR presentation at TAS is "Car Manufacturing at Nürburgring", I'm guessing it could be the new GRMN Yaris under one of those covers.

Interesting to see pricing of that new GRMN and if it will be sold to EU/UK. Guessing similar price as special editions and better spec sheet ie Toyota looting

60k is insane if that’s the case. I struggled to justify 45k, glad I did now but still think the interior quality could be improved without much difficulty for that price. Very scratchy and plasticy. There’s definitely not 15k worth of extra car on the SE ones so if you’re going to buy to use and not store I’d just get a regular one. Albeit the GRMN will have a few extra goodies you’ll probably only notice on a track day I guess.
