GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

Just dropping my Mk1 off for service and MOT, spotted a Mk2 on the lift; Resonance/Vibration at 3000rpm, sounds familiar ๐Ÿ˜…

its similar as the Gen1 GRMN undertray. have had thoughts to modify the current alu belly pan with similar ducting but during winter it doesn't need that.
extra air might help abit, in rally cars they usually have separate cooler for transfer box still.
I think a few of the changes are incorporated from the GRMN like body stiffness, cold air feed and cooling undertray.

The GRMN or Mk2 underbody fits the Mk1. Polybauer also has an identical underbody that I installed on my Mk1.

not sure if that Cold air feed has much difference other than red colour, to my understanding the design is quite similar as in gen1, or it there real difference?
Thereโ€™s quite a difference in design.

This video suggests that there is a very marginal improvement so better to have than to not.

However my point was theyโ€™re 3 items that have carried over from the GRMN.

Anyone know if there are oem covers in the rear? I donโ€™t have it on my mk2.
Looks like thereโ€™s cutouts and places to mount it.

The GRMN or Mk2 intake pipe is also installed on my Mk 1. From Japan, despite customs and shipping, โ‚ฌ100 cheaper than Toyota Germany. I paid โ‚ฌ700 from Japan.

The GRMN intake pipe is closed at the bottom and thicker. By the way, you can also transfer the battery vent hose from the Mk2 to the Mk1. This allows the gases to escape more easily. I had that done too.

These were also uncovered on the mk1.

You can get the full rally plates to go there but itโ€™s sold as a pack and about โ‚ฌ1,500

Hi guys,
Last saturday i toke my MK2 to her first proper track day. Short but fast track in Italy with a wet part for couple of good drifted corners.
Outdoor temperature 5 * Celsius. After 8 km the car right in the middle of a corner decided to leave me with FWD for overheat. With massive disappointment i discovered that my MK2 has exactly same issue as MK1. Had to stop to cool it down every 5 min to a point i decided to stop and go home.
Clearly a waste of money for the day, long drive to the track for no Fun at all. Went straight to Toyota yesterday to check if anyone else has same issue and plug the car to their software to check. Big surprise...there is a software update needed message exactly for the differential overheat (probably heat sensor calibrated too low temp.) Thursday they will do the update as they had no time yesterday. Funny thing is that when i saw their PC monitor it says update from 2023. My car is 2024, delivered past July, how is it possible that my car left Japan without this update from 2023???????????????
WTF Toyota!!!!!???????????? Is it only mine or we all have same issue? I already drove 5500 km on mine and clearly never drove it pushing the limits as i did last saturday tho. Would like to hear from you!!!! below a photo of the message after i restarted the car and drove out of the track to cool it down.
Will keep you posted

that's strange - have never gotten a driveline overheat issue but driving quite slowly.

Instead of adding just power, If had the power of deciding the design approach for mk2 I'd focused on resolving the oil pressure, transferbox heat etc. other gremlins that make full monty driving less fun. So instead of demanding peak performance, would have made it more tolerant of fast driving. but, maybe there was more pressure to make car faster on paper. It will be fun to see mk1 vs mk2 on track back to back if there is real world difference in pace.

I'm just speculating, but since Toyota also has multiple race programs based on the GR Yaris, it's maybe not in their best interest to make the road going car perform too well on track

I've got to agree, they addressed some of the key issues people reported in the MK1 car, Seat height, rear view mirror obscuring the view, angled the infotainment screen towards driver and lowered this slightly.
