GR Yaris (Gen 2) GR Yaris Mk2 (MY2024->)

These are just speculative magazine renders AFAIK
Yes but sometimes inside people will have whispered in their ears how it would look like. These pics line up with the news coming out and also some more inside intel I heard.

As long as it does not have pop-up headlights, the design changes won't bother me a lot.

could be but they say its their own mockup, but could be close to final.
Fun to see how it will be. via google translate:

We'll see, just bringing it up again to see how close they were. Best Motoring is much more likely to get close than lots of the clickbait motoring "news" going around nowadays.

I imagine a certain amount of this will have to link to the plans for the WRC programme? With the Rally1 car using the silhouette of our beloved GR Yaris, it would be strange for the team to run a car that doesn't look like a production model, if they are even allowed to? So I wonder whether this will mean either changing the Rally1 car to resemble the standard Yaris silhouette (not sure how much they would actually have to change), or extend the GR Yaris production/make a Mk2,

Likely Rally1 car will be updated to latest street version looks, at least per roofline and lights. bumper and fenders are different already so maybe not much changes are needed.

Unless Toyota throw a real curve-ball, nothing in the car's fundamentals (shell, roofline, doors etc.) will be changing so no need to change anything on the rally version.

The bumpers, wheel arches, wing etc. are already vastly different anyway.

I was thinking less from a technical/construction point of view tbh. The Rally1 car is marketed as a rally version of the GR Yaris, but next season if they no longer produce a production version, I wonder what the plan will be? Maybe it'll look the same, but be badged as a normal/GR Sport Yaris. Since Rally1 cars must be identifiable as being based on a series production model, it seems to me that they'll either have to stop calling the Rally1 car a GR Yaris, or they'll need to continue to produce them or make a Mk2.

It has not been based on GR Yaris since 2022. It resebles GR Yaris, but the car it self is bespoke, tubular frame. engine is one off, built as per Rally1 regulations, 4cyl 1.6ltr.
The Unicorn car, GR Yaris WRC that is for show at Jyskä Finland is one of the three cars that were build accroding WRC Regulations based on GR Yaris, but these Rally1 are not.

There's no direct homologation requirement as Michael Knight says, but maybe they'll continue to trickle them out for marketing reasons.

It's really rare that a car only gets incremental production updates and doesn't receive any kind of facelift/LCI though.

Agree, but you're focusing more on the technical specification, and I'm not. I'm aware they are spaceframe etc, but Toyota still choose to call it a 'GR Yaris' rather than a 'Yaris'.

As far as I can tell based on current regs, they'll need to stop doing that if they don't have a production GR Yaris, or rename it to a car that is in production.

"Rally1 cars are not needed to be homologated in Group A or N and have no series production car requirement with being 'Category II' purpose-built competition vehicles. However, they must be identifiable as being based on a series production model."

So the way I see it, we'll either get more GR Yarises in production, or Toyota will rally effectively the same car but as a regular Yaris.

I'm looking forward to seeing something official one day from Toyota then...

I was mulling this over mostly from a point of view of whether there might there be an upcoming trigger/deadline to announce concrete plans for a new or continued GRY, and whether the WRC team's plans for next season might give us some clues.

Hi everyone,

Looks like it exists. No facelift from what I saw. Electronic handbrake and 8 speed manual gearbox. Different seats, the wheels looks different, but I don't know if this is specific to the japanese version.
Surprisingly, it's from 2 month ago.

Here's the video:

The new "normal" Yaris is visible on Toyota France: https://www.toyota.fr/vehicules-neufs/yaris/nouvelle-yaris

It gives an idea of what changes could be on the GR Yaris, it's not so much from the outside.

Inside there is a new screen and a digital display: not so important for a sports car... I would even say I prefer the analog display!
I'me more interested in a retrofit of the 2 x USB-C ports on the centre console

Also looks like there is inductive charging now.
That + Wireless Android Auto in an integrated Package could definitely get me to upgrade to that newer Headunit (only if I can keep my analogue Gauge cluster though).
