Hi all,

I hope you don't mind me asking your age, I'm just intrigued as to which age groups are buying this car.

I will kick this off with my age , I'm 56 this year and purchased the car as semi retirement gift to myself , this car just ticked all the boxes of what I've always wanted from a car and I can now afford it.

There is a thread (with poll!) on the other site about this; surprisingly old is the answer 😂 I’m just the right side of 50.

You could add a poll here, might be a different mix?

Just turned 52. Bought it 13 months ago as a last interesting car
Had the Impreza’s and evo’s back in the day so couldn’t say no
Use it for back and fore work and a blat when it’s not motorbike weather

Did we all buy these cars by mistake, thinking it's a nice reliable car with a 10 year warranty to serve us well during our later years

I'm pushing towards 70, and there are a few who are similar but there's one owner getting very close to 80 :)

In general, car prices have gone up. More spent on emissions, crash and other regulation R&D. More materials. More expensive labour. A weak pound. Plentiful low-interest debt. Leasing. Longer warranties. The bottom of the market rising as old cars fail MOTs or have expensive VED.

Specifically for the Yaris, it's a high cost to practicality ratio and is near the top of its size segment for price. If you need to seat 3 full size humans then the car won't work for you and there are similarly priced cars that will. If you don't need to, there are cheaper cars that are very critically acclaimed.

Conversely, spending power has generally gone down for younger people. And I don't just mean 18-year-olds, I mean all the way up to people at an age where they are thinking about or living the reality of carting kids about. It's easy to reach an age where you can no longer contemplate dailying an effective 2-seater before you can expect to afford this car.

The appeal of cars for this generation has decreased. It's not cool to admit you like cars in a world that understands global warming to the extent we do and it's not a necessity in a large city, where young people are more likely to live. For those who still like cars, I would guess they're more likely to care about something German.

At the same time, the appeal of the car is weighted towards older people. As I said earlier, there are more practical, higher-horsepower cars for a similar price. There is some other appeal that makes us want to buy this car. For a lot of us/you/car reviewers, it's the appeal of the idea of a homologation special(ish). That's going to mean a lot more to people who were around to buy the last set of homologation specials or who were around to watch rallying at its peak.

So I'm not surprised it's mostly people older than the typical hot-hatch stereotype.

Has anyone tried fitting a mobility scooter in the boot? I'm 53, ordered last May. The way deliveries are going, I may need the scooter first!
I couldn't have put it better, I'm thinking about including my order in my will, so at least my daughters will get this iconic car

Ha, age comes to us all I'm told!

Hard to know what I'll end up using it as, I've considered using it as just a weekend / track car or if it suits I will get rid of the other car me and my partner share and have it as the every day car.

Until I have it and see how it fits into my lifestyle I think it will be hard to say!

In a fortunate position to be able to trial having multiple cars for a while, but if I can save costs and cut down to one car (plus work van) then I will.

49. The car would actually have been my gift to me on the 50th, in red. But since the delivery would have been postponed to summer 23 and my birthday is in spring, I didn't want to wait and was able to pick up a white GR on Saturday. In the end it doesn't matter, because I'm sitting in the car while driving and that's exactly why I bought it.

I’m early 30s, I’ve wanted a performance car with a link to rally heritage for years due to watching it whilst growing up (ie Impreza, Evo etc), but it was never practical due to renting in flats with no parking or living in a city. In the meantime I was always able to borrow my parents cars.

Now that I finally live in a house with dedicated parking, I’m ensuring that I already have the sports car in place before kids happens and it’s more difficult to justify 😜
