GR Alps trip 2023 - Initial thread

@Sticky Please put myself and the Mrs on the maybe list mate.

Never done a trip like this and would love to do one, would there be people attending who aren't keen on the "spirited driving" part and just take their merry way through the roads etc?
 
I've had the initial, 'when is it?' (and do I have a choice? from him indoors). 🤣 I'm a definitely maybe. Just need to talk him round a bit more, but I have already said it's about time we did a Euro trip again, so the seed was already planted.

@Sly I've done a fair few Euro trips and many of them in convoy. I think people very much realise how they want to go about it early on during the trip and you tend to get little groups forming. But we'd all have the satnav anyway so you should absolutely go at your own pace. It's a tour, not a race after all and you don't want to get caught speeding by the Swiss! I've done trips before when some have just said they'll catch us up later at lunch or at the hotel at the end of the day.

Yeah, the Mrs and I would mosy on through and enjoy the scenery, can't afford any fines! :D

Promote me to the definite list, sans wife though as she doesn't have enough holidays to go traipsing round the Alps.

Not a problem, that makes at least 3 of us on the ferry from Hull. I'll update the list.

Any other definites... if you can post or PM me with your preferred crossing I'll add the details to the list so that folks can potentially arrange to travel together.
 
Another small thought. If you're taking a +1 let me know if you want double or twin rooms. Don't want to ruin (or form any new) relationships :ROFLMAO:
 
@Sticky , please add me as a definite. Will be +1 double bed please. Not quite sure whether we'll do Hull - Rotterdam or Chunnel as need to work out Indy care whilst we are away. My mum lives in London near the Chunnel. (y)
 
@Sticky your provisional dates clash with Le Mans, not sure if that affects anything for you or the people are going, likely to be busier for crossings at least!

Okay, provisional date bumped forwards a week, or is that backwards? Bugger! :rolleyes::ROFLMAO:

Friday 16th onwards (May also work out a little cheaper!). I'll update the OP

That's nothing. Now the dates have moved I'll be back home for 4 days before a 14 night stint on the bike down through Italy and back up through the Balkans!
 
Sounds great. I used to organise bike and car trips for groups of like-minded riders/drivers focussed on the Ardennes/Eiffel region so like the loose format you're suggesting here. I like your idea of limiting numbers. I managed 20 bikes one year but that was too many.

Please put me and +1 on the provisional list please (double room).

We'll cross via tunnel or Dover/Calais (for obvious reasons).
 
Been wanting to get involved in something like this since I got the GR, missed this thread somehow. Could you add me to the definite list, +1 tbc
 
@Sticky Now that the dates have changed and the duration slightly reduced l can now make it:D, so please put me down as a definite, with a possible +1 to be determined nearer the time. Thanks.

A double bed please and we will be amongst those taking Eurotunnel and then across to Luxembourg.

Small update. Am up for Hull to Rotterdam, as really little Indy needs to stay around Manchester so she can get to the dog hospital that knows her if she needs it. She's an old dog after all. In all honesty this was my preference anyway and my mum is scared of looking after her with all her health issues.
