GR86 Goodbye :-( and hello again 😀

Update: the warranty claim was still ongoing and still no clearer on what was happening (repair or replacement). They did say it could be many weeks to resolve it all. Growing a little bored, I placed a new order (didn't realise I could have more than one), upon which Toyota called me back to say this was the best course of action and have cancelled my original order and will honour the new one.

I now have a new order incoming (arrived in UK already, wow - those Japanese factories can get stuff done quickly) and will arrive at another but different dealer closer to home.

No ETA yet but expect it to be 1-2 weeks until delivery. Fingers crossed this works out better for me, I feel better getting a fresh car, just hope this one is undamaged.

PS - all colours were still available at time of finalising order.
Great news! Congratulations. I hope the online team will ask the new dealer to ensure that this car is spot on for you before collection.

That is fantastic news! A nice new start. Will you be collecting from Brian at Halbeath this time?
You’ll probably have yours before I get mine from Autotrader! The current owner runs a detailing business and is doing some work on it for me before I get it transported up. Likely expected to be 3 weeks or so. That’ll be the savings I made at purchase being splooged on goodies then😮‍💨

Thanks! Yeh, it is indeed Brian. I’ve bought my last two 86’s from there and get on well with the sales manager Scott and he’s happy to chat to me via email whenever, So fingers crossed for a smooth experience. Should have went this route originally.

The Blue you’ve went for is an excellent colour, I had a Blue Edition 86 and loved it! A real standout colour.

What detailing you having done?

The seat was not sitting correctly and it looks like the stitching was defective.

The dealer should have spotted this and said nothing. They have been awful to deal with, no contact, no phone calls when promised and felt like I was at the bottom of the pile, just felt like someone they didn’t want to deal with which is sad as I’ve been a loyal customer to them over the years. Toyota Online were no angels either.
The seat is just not installed properly. I have been through this myself, as I collected my car with no PDI, all the factory covers were in my car. I had to undo the rear seat like that to remove the factory rear seat cover.

Fingers crossed eh

Thanks for the info. It went into their service workshop and they said they couldn’t fix it and raised a warranty case. Who knows, it’s cancelled now anyway, plus there is now even more miles on it that it had already so not too happy with that and glad it’s getting replaced.

Called the chap on auto trader with the silver one as the savings are hard to ignore. Managed to chat with him, but picked up a few odd statements such as: “we can reserve the car for you with a £500 holding deposit” and “we bought the car for product research”. I mean, who are “we”? Aren’t you the private owner? I asked and he said he was but it did immediately get my spidey senses going. It might be nothing but it wasn’t the kind of talking style I expected. Maybe I’m growing too skeptical but think I’ll firmly pass on this and pay the premium for my brand new one awaiting delivery.

I mean, product research? What on earth does that mean? Is that 126 miles around a race track? Who knows. Anyways, that’s my problem, just felt odd.

Maybe it's the Royal 'We'? I doubt it though. Sounds like either a dealer or an Engineering company that makes stuff for cars, or maybe tunes them. I think you are right to steer clear, you never know what's been fitted and removed or how many times it's been Dyno'd to within an inch of its life. Onwards my friend!!!

Yeh, it’s a saving for sure, but will keep my new replacement blue one arriving on the 15th! So far all gone smoothly.

Did you place your new order when you posted on Tuesday and already have a date of the 15th? Finalised mine Wednesday, but no date yet - same blue

Placed my order Tuesday. Got notification that the car was at Derby holding centre the same day. Then a day later got notified it will be here on the 15th. The dealer will have to PDI etc so imagine it will be a couple of weeks before I take delivery.

It can take a while. You should email [email protected] with your ORCA number and ask for an ETA.

Fingers crossed this one is faultless John 👍🏻🙏🍻

My replacement car has arrived. Apparently the new dealer has inspected and says it’s “immaculate”. Going to view this weekend. Excited now!

Fan-bloody-tastic! So glad that it's arrived safe and sound. Mine will arrive at my house on Monday. I have that giddy excited feeling too ... and I've just booked myself onto the GRZoo Japfest next year (due mostly to the SWMBO's encouragement) :D

Excellent! Will be good to finally get into our cars.

Oh, that sounds like good fun. I’ll need to have a nosey.
