I would recommend a phone call in to Quaife. Logic would say LS gear oil for LSD application, but always best to check with the diff manufacturer
 
I am sorry, but i thought that the front LSD is integrated into the gearbox?
Because my paperwork tells me, different oil volume for the gearbox if there is an LSD or not. But always the same oil.
Enclosed there is a screenshot but it is in german…

No, front LSD in a Circuit Pack transfer box. Centre diff is in the gearbox.
 
Ok, but when i look into toyota-tech with my cars VIN (which is a GR with Torsen LSD), it tells me to use "Toyota Original Differentialgetriebeöl LT API GL-5 SAE 75W-85" for the transfercase.
Which would translate to "Ravenol MTF1"... only the rear diff should get oil with LS additive regarding the workshop guide. (Toyota Original Differentialgetriebeöl LX 75W-85 GL-5 - translates to Ravenol DGL 75W-85 LS)

It will definitely not hurt the transfer box to use the same oil as the rear diff as the gears dont care about the LS additive.
Sorry for bothering you but i am just a little bit confused :)

It’s sure getting complicated now. Good luck finding a diff in the transfer case for either car.

You could put an LS oil in there though if you really want, it wouldn’t care I doubt.

Incorrect, maybe having an evo in mind?

Front LSD is in the gearbox.
Transfer box is just a bevel gear and sits adjecent to the gearbox in a separate casing.
Center "diff" is a wet plated clutch that sits in front of the (completely seperate) rear differential with Torsen (these two are very often confused with each other also...).

It's getting complicated ;)

On topic, stick with Toyota/LSD producer recommended and/or official recommendations by oil suppliers for equivalent oils...

.. Then why not an LS oil in the box.?

Transfer box.... Specified gear Oil?

Might do without the LS in the rear to get that 10% more locking :D, have some small issues in very tight turns of the rear losing traction (mostly due to inner wheel lift, but if it helps...)

If worried about the quality of lubrication, just change more often...

Have enough Ravenol MTF-3 left, could one dare to put that in the rear Torsen diff? It obviously works for the front Torsen diff... but it's GL-4 instead of GL-5... considering the small anount of oil, I'll get GL-5... Edit: 1l Ravenol MTF-1 ordered :D

Just to further confuse/add to the thread, this is what the dealership put in today on a full service. I know it’s not Ravenol but it may help someone in cross referencing for future oil choices.

NON CIRCUIT PACK (open differentials)

- Front differential LT 75W85 API GL-5
- Rear differential LX 75W85 API GL-5

I'd just advise anyone wanting to go for a heavier Gearbox Oil, I recently did (went for the correct Cusco Gearbox oil) and the gearbox is noticeably more difficult to operate when cold now (completely fine when hot) but I don't like how it feels, fortunately my car doesn't get used as a daily much now but if I did I'd have already drained and replaced it with the OEM stuff.
 
Thanks to this thread and @GR_Jonas especially, made a new one to discuss the benefits of skipping the LS modifier in the rear diff.

So I read this Torsen comment about locking increasing 10% with non LS oil and immediately 💡⚡ordered oil without LS modifier and put it in. I sometimes find the rear loses traction as the inner wheel lifts. Any additional locking will help the outer wheel to slip more and thus reduce inside...

If you think about it, the front diff enclosed in the gearbox is lubricated with MTF 75W Oil.
Reagarding to the FAQ from Torsen the front diff should do „more“ locking than the rear.
To my understanding if the front diff can handle it, the rear should do just fine and for maximum locking you can use the 75W too.
Please use this information only for „thought experiments“… i am not eligable for killed diffs.

The gearbox is GL-4 only though. The rear is strained more and only has 0,5l of oil and spec is GL-5 which can take higher load. So using Ravenol MTF-1 75W-85 GL-5. Lower viscosity oil like straight 75 or 75W-80 will be even more beneficial for locking (marginally) but there becomes a point the increased heat probably becomes an issue, so I'm sticking with the spec but then minus the LS...
