Hi

Is anyone using Ravenol RHP 75w-90 in gearbox and rear diff?

Ravenol says it is suitable for Yaris.
It is mainly suitable for track and racing but can it be used while street driving too? It should tolerate heat better than the regular oil in the rear diff under harder using I assume. And that would be better because the oil quantities are so small in oour cars.
I am interested using the best oil we could in the drivetrain.
 
Interesting find.
Looks like suitable for the rear diff and the front transfer case. However check again if it is a good idea to use in the gearbox (where the front diff sits) as synchros aren compatible with everything especially friction modifiers. And oil capacity is larger there anyway.

Before using this I just wanted to be sure if it is suitable and doesnt cause any harm or is someone already using it and has some thoughts about it.
Or am I just overthinking 😀
 
Well it would be nice to get a confirmation. Seems like a quite recent thing RHP as I haven't seen it before when shopping for oils... Last updated 2/1/24
 
We have been using RHP for a few years now in GR Yaris gearbox application, when a very high performance gear oil is required, track use application really. Ravenol MTF-3 is perfect for road/fast road application.

RHP is not a full LS gear oil, so I'd recommend Ravenol DGL 75W-85 LS for the GR Yaris transfer box and rear LSD (Circuit Pack). Should you require a specific very high performace track spec LS gear oil for transfer and LSD, Ravenol have their SLS 75W-140 which is GL-5 LS
 
That SLS grade should be interesting for those running very hard and wanting some additional peace of mind. Better is still to reduce temps with additional cooling solutions, best both?
 
Just had my rear differential oil changed to Ravenol MFT-1 (75W-85) which complies with OEM part numbers. Upgraded from OEM open diff to a Quaife & this is what was put in. I think Ravenol have a presence on this forum @ravenoluk

What kind of Quaife? Usually a LSD should get a LS grade?
 
A Quaife ATB LSD. According to their literature, they aren’t particularly fussy about which oil you put in. The only concern I had was a compliant oil that is compatible with oil seals/bearings etc rather than the LSD itself. You are starting to make me worry @Onehp as you are usually meticulous in your research regarding yay or nays with our cars 😨

did you fit the rear diff yourself or get someone to fit for you? if the latter could you DM how much they charged for the rear diff, I've been considering buying the quaife diffs lately
 
Don’t need ls for torque biased diff. Neither quaife or torsen ask for it, look it up. The ls is for the clutch in a plated diff.

True. Thing is, the spec for the rear diff is different from Toyota and I wrongly assumed this was some kind of LS grade, but can't find proper info on what the difference is...
 
Yes it is but it’s never been mentioned as to why so I assume it’s a mistake on their part. I’ve always assumed that the ls for plated diffs is a friction modifier to stop the plates sticking. Not researched it any further, it may even make a torque bias diff perform worse, I have no evidence to support that.
 
Ravenol MTF-3 gearbox
Ravenol DGL 75W-85 LS transfer box with LSD and rear diff with LSD. *The exception to this is in a non Circuit Pack car*. A Convenience spec GR Yaris doesn't have front and rear LSD, so a non LS gear oil such as MTF-1 should be used.

NB. Anyone using the Ravenol model search function for oil recommendations. I understand this defaults to Convenience spec GR Yaris, so for example, you may get a transfer box recommendation for MTF-1. For a Convenience spec GR Yaris, this is correct. For a Circuit Pack GR Yaris, an LS gear oil such as DGL 75W-85 LS must be used. The LS friction modifier is essential for LSD applications.

The Quaife rear ATB LSD is no longer Toyota specification, so as has already been said. Quaife should confirm their oil spec for application.
 
Looks like I’ll be filling my bastardized differential with DGL 75W-85 LS just to be on the safe side! Looks like @Onehp was right about LS for LSD’s 👍🏻
