I’ve had the Yaris since January and not really used it. I’m off to the Nurburgring next weekend so will be my first time using it for any length of time and distance.
Being as I live just outside of Inverness it will be quite a drive down south to Folkestone. What’s a realistic range for the Yaris on a full tank of super unleaded, doing legal speeds on the motorway and A roads? I’m hoping to make it to Costco Haydock for my first stop, which is around 360 miles from home.
Thank you.

Even with some serious hypermiling and draughting lorries I doubt you will see 360 miles. You’ll certainly be running on fumes for the last part if you do.

50 litres (11 gallons) should do 360 miles as that’s only 33 mpg, but I rarely get near 300 miles before the fuel light comes on, normally around 260 miles.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it…

I have managed some spectacular mpg in my Up GTI, so I’ll accept your Challenge. I’ll just have a back up in Glasgow, just in case.

Your consumption is highly related to your driving speed. If you do 80-90km/h GR is quite efficient. Anything above +100km/h it will not.
So if you're not in a rush and drive slowly those smaller roads without doing any accelerations, you could get close to 40mpg. but good luck in doing that!
Currently averaging 20mpg.

37 last week going to Manchester which is 100 miles, average overall 30, far better than my FRS Mk3, 22!!!

Use the adaptive cruse on the motorway and that’ll improve range but I’d be amazed if you get over 360 miles from a tank. I’ve a similar experience to others here, I’m usually getting around 260-280.

I filled up today on Circle K's finest 98ron and it's the first time I have seen over 500km (310 miles) on my range. She's way more thirsty than the BMW 520d xdrive it replaced. I used to get 1200km ish from a tank in that!

My range according to the computer is about 320 miles when I fill up the tank, I do a lot of dual carriageways and motorways. I've noticed is it's far more economical once it's all warmed up. The most I've had was about 48mpg or something like that over about 100 miles or so, but we're talking all motorway, average speed cameras and traffic keeping me to 50-60mph behind lorries for pretty much the whole journey. Once it became an MPG challenge and more entertaining than the driving, I switched the air con off for another couple of mpg :D

360 sounds like a lot, possibly only feasible if you're putting your MPG as the priority for the whole journey tbh. I find the range on the dash pretty accurate with normal driving, but can be beaten quite easily with careful driving. Above 60mph the MPG drops off quite dramatically.

I only got 600kms on my GRY (tomorrow we are celebrating our first week together) but I am quite shocked by the consumption tbh. That short 6th gear is killing me on the German Autobahn.

During the 34 months long wait for the Yaris, I went from a diesel Peugeot 308 SW to a Golf GTI Clubsport which was quite the shock (1200km range to 600km) and now the GRY is noticably worse on fuel than the GTI CS (600km vs 400km). It is funny that I keep getting smaller and lighter cars but the consumption keeps getting higher with each of them.

Maybe the fuel tank size has something to do with consumption calculation, and yes the GR is not the best for the highway.

Tank sizes are 53l vs 50l vs 50l so very comparable imo. I am guessing the 7th gear in the DSG is doing some heavy lifting whereas the diesel in the peugeot was incredibly efficient regardless of gear or speed.

It’s very likely to do just the opposite as it will labour up hills and be on and off the throttle much more than a smooth and anticipative driver.

Over 38,000 km my car seems to average about 10 l/100 km (28 mpg) so I generally need to fill up after about 400-430 km which is 250-270 miles, same as most folk it seems.

From Inverness though I’d 100% be getting the ferry from Newcastle. Saves a huge amount of dull driving, avoids just racking up miles for nothing, hastening your next service, and the couple of hundred you'll save in fuel will go a long way to covering the difference in ferry cost.

And it’s a nice way to start and end a trip, savouring a few units while bobbing about on the North Sea 🍻

Best I’ve done is 353miles travelling at 70mph from Tesco Edinburgh to Tesco Bicester but that included around 25 miles on 0.

Also to note that Costco premium fuel is 97RON and the Yaris should be run on 98RON as per the owners manual.

I’m from Bedfordshire originally, so stopping at my parents for the night now and meeting my mates whom I’m going with. I did look at the ferry and for the cost and time I decided I’d rather drive.

Did remember that. Decided to schedule my first stop for Tesco Carlisle now - pretty much next to the M6.
