GR Yaris Fuel Range

My experience is that if you drive slowly and think about the consumption it is possible to get it to be economical. During the Christmas holidays I drove to the Swedish mountains and due to snow (not all people on the road drive GR’s) the speed was slow.

This made the car quite economical in my opinion, with a “range” of 800km with 6,2/100km.

I only got 600kms on my GRY (tomorrow we are celebrating our first week together) but I am quite shocked by the consumption tbh. That short 6th gear is killing me on the German Autobahn.

During the 34 months long wait for the Yaris, I went from a diesel Peugeot 308 SW to a Golf GTI Clubsport which was quite the shock (1200km range to 600km) and now the GRY is noticably worse on fuel than the GTI CS (600km vs 400km). It is funny that I keep getting smaller and lighter cars but the consumption keeps getting higher with each of them.
From my direct experience, and from some friends (and my dealer as well) who own a GRY, the average consumption usually tends to settle down to a slightly more reasonable level, in average, once you have some thousands kms on the odo.

I literally never was as low as this….

Not the usual consumption. But it is possible if you drive at 70-90kph in 6th gear and don’t have fun.

But why take the GR if consumption is prio😉 think you “should” have at least over 10/100km, otherwise you have not used it properly and could have been in something bigger, safer and more comfortable and with better fuel economy.

Im hovering around 8.6L/100km. Depending on the conditions of course you can manage even way less.

Obviously everybody has their own way of looking at this but as far Im concerned that's pretty damn good. At the end of the day you have to keep in mind that you are sitting in a purpose build performance car that can do 0-100kph in 5 seconds or less.
A co-worker of mine bought himself a new Toyota Aygo X and he told me he is averaging around 6L/100km and that car only has 72hp. It's always helpful to keep things in perspective.

The only thing that I can do criticize is the very pessimistic range estimate of the car. Even if the needle is showing empty and the warning light comes on you still have around 8L in the tank. That's still enough to drive around 80km but Im not the type of person who wants to push his luck on this so I have never actually done it.

Not your car that is broken, it is you right foot that work as is should 😉
I was going to say broken right ankle more like 😂

I’m not sure eking out every metre from a drop of fuel is a celebratory exercise in a performance car. It’s a bit like telling your mates you pulled a 19 year old fitness model but only had to spend 3 quid on the night as you shared a can of cider and sent her home on the bus.

Exactement! 😂

Yes, but you live with the fitness model and get to enjoy your time together every day... Occasionally, it's fun to drink cheap cider together on a park bench.

I'm confused why someone who's going to the ring is worried about fuel economy. I would be more worried about tyres and crashing when I get there.

Delighted to report none of us ditched it into a wall/the scenery/a bus stop full of kittens, schnitzel and children. We even each managed to make a set of tyres last the entire journey 😎🤘🏻
