I don't know if any of you have already encountered a flat battery? I have, and I had to call roadside assistance once having collected my car for less than a week at the time.

I drove my GR86 from London to Birling Gap and back on Boxing Day, and stalled once just a few blocks from my house. Right after that it took me several minutes to park the car on my tight driveway. I didn't drive the car on 27th or 28th. When I tried to get into the car in the morning of 29th, I noticed the car didn't respond to the key. Turns out, it was a flat battery which also reset a lot of the computer settings (eg. rev reminder) on the car. I had to call for RAC via my insurance to get it jump started. While I was told to let it idle for 5 minutes, I noticed the battery was charged up to 14V within a minute of starting the car according to the dash.

I am not entirely sure if a new car should do that. The RAC person tried to blame me for leaving the interior lights on (which I know wasn't the case as the lights were just in door mode). While I have the hardwired dash cam installed by the dealer, the thing switches off together with the engine at the moment. Even if it is in parking mode, there should be a low voltage protection at around 11V according to Internet articles. I'm suspecting if it's a sequela of the months in Derby.

I have also just went to take a look at my car, and there were no warnings of low voltage at "accessories on". Has anyone else encountered a flat battery? Care to share your observations if so please?

Different car I know, but the only cases of the GRY with flat/problematic batteries have been from dashcams, aftermarket immobilisers/alarms, etc.

Of course, the battery could have been damaged before it reached you as well.

Mine was dead on collection from the dealer!

They jumped it, I left it on a CTEK charger at home for a day or so and no problems since 🤞

...mine will be on CTEK quite regularly, especially at this time of year.

its most likely been parked up for ages before you got it and will just need a bit on a smart charger to condition it back up
The dash cam is Nextbase 380GWX that the dealer supplied and installed, and as I was told it is the only one approved by Toyota UK. I know that the car has been sat in Derby from July until December. I'm not sure if the highs and lows of the extreme temperatures this year played a part.

That sounds appalling. Has it been okay after being left for a few days?

I didn't drive it for 3 days and it started fine to reverse out for a wash and then back in. I will most likely put it on charge tomorrow, looking at the weather for the next few days.

My car arrived in Bristol in June, for reference.

My GT86 used to have problems with the battery, leaving it and going on holiday for two weeks and then failing to start was apparently my fault for not driving it enough . . .

I have had personal experience with two BMWs being left for 2 weeks, and were still able to start without issues. My dad's X3 even has always on Internet connection and it was okay after 2 weeks.

Have you tinkered with it in any way? Changed settings, LED bulb swaps?

No, just the dash cam installed by the dealer. No changes since. And I have just checked that Parking Mode hasn't been on for the last few days.

I think there was a service bulletin on the original small batteries. Mine was replaced by larger capacity one free of charge
Since I never had flat even after three weeks.
Let’s hope gr86 doesn’t have incorrect capacity batteries

Maybe just lack of use as our cars have been sitting since June. Worth a try using the ctek to try to recondition it.
I think when I plugged my ctek in, it did take a while to reach full charge.

I plugged mine in to a CTEK charger and it only took a few hours to a full charge.

Not had any issues with starting the car up but you can never be too careful, especially with cars having been sat in Derby for ages and I have replaced some of the bulbs with LEDs (technically they're lower power draw but you never know).

I personally went for a 350 mile drive to charge mine properly. Also to run the engine in ASAP. A machine is a little living thing and deserves to live its life as meant to … 🤩
Ah, but did you remember that pint of milk you'd popped out for?

;)

🤣😂🤣luckily I did not need to make thousand little excuses. I was asked airport transfer at 2am in the morning in pouring weather . I willingly obliged 🤩

I was very generous with lifts during my run in period, you live in Oxford and want to come see us? I'll pop right over via 2hrs of awesome b roads. 😂

Oh and on the way back.......

Has everything been okay with your since? Mine randomly was dead after two days of non driving. The AA roadside man said this:

It’s currently in with Toyota to test it but they’ll probably give every excuse under the sun saying it’s not been driven enough.
