GR86 Exhausts

Erm, no you can't. I've had reports that you've been quite naughty this year so Santa won't be visiting. Whereas he'll likely have to hire a Luton Van when he visits me because I'm an angel 😇. I'll be going for the TP33 outverted slash-cut tips to keep it OEM looking. I have a pair of 4.5" gloss CF tips sitting on my garage shelf which would just need a 3" to 2.5" adapter piece to make them fit the GR86 pipework if I fancy a change.

I also have the tp33 and I love them, it stands out a little bit, specially on a black car and also keeps the “oem style”.

Busy overthinking exhausts for a car I don't have yet, I see Nengun list the Apexi for £950.99 Link

If import tax is 10% plus VAT that's £1250 ish. Obviosuly we'll need to pay VAT on shipping, and I have no idea what shipping will cost.. but surely it'll be under £500?

I've also discovered the Blitz Nur Spec, but can only see one video of static revving, has anyone found any more? I've previously run HKS Hyper and Blitz Nur specs on Supras and liked them, both very well built... although the Blitz did boom a bit.

Edit Fensport can get a Nur spec for £1042 + vat and delivery, if anyone is interested, bit of a wild card as there are very few videos of it!

And another video - It's the dual tip version, but should sound the same.

I got my HKS Legamax Sports around 1.1k to the door

Note the Japanese and US videos will be louder than the EU cars, as they don't have GPF. Found it out first hand. We got member here with the Spec-L2 too, proably the best way to judge is to hear the europe car with them in person at a meet

No regrets on the APEXi, by far the best for me. Spendy but worth it.
Criminally overlooked in this thread!

Got the AWE Touring installed and it’s sounds great! I guess the OPF muffles the sound a bit more than on US cars as it’s not as loud as I expected and worried about. It sounds great annd absolutely no drone. You hear it all times but is civilized when you want to and only barks when you’re in the upper revs or make sudden throttle movements. It can pop and bang on downshifts but only if you blip the throttle.
Very happy with it!

How did you find the fitment? I've enquired about getting one imported to the UK, and the response i got;

"Unfortunately the North American spec vehicles have a different emissions control system to that we use here on the European Spec ones.
So for this reason we cannot guarantee fitment"

As far as i can see, the center-pipe section that contains the GPF is the only part that is different between EU and US spec cars. Given that this section is left in place i can't forsee any issues.

May i ask who you ordered it from in the states?

Thanks

Anyone here have the Fujitsubu system?

I have had Blitz Nur Spec, Apexi N1 and Fujitsubo Legalis R on my Celica GT-Four and the Fujitsubo is far the best one I had, 3" all the way through but doesn't drone and makes a lovely sound.

It is also on offer at the moment so shouldn't be too much over a grand delivered.

I ordered it from SubiSpeed in the US. I had no issues at all fitting it to my EU spec car.

We've recently produced a cat back system for a local owner. Hoping to be approved for Vendor status on here real soon

Would love to get some sound footage and dB level info. For insurance purposes, would a Cat-Back system be classed as Road Legal and not 'for race use only'?

Thanks for your interest. The owner is bringing the car back to us soon for an engine oil change (Ravenol USVO) at 1,000 miles. He's reluctant to use the full rpm range until then.

So, when it's here we'll get that for you. We went with the centre silencer and two silencers pre tail pipes, but there's a chance we may be removing the centre silencer as this first system may not have enough exhaust note for this owner.

I've been looking at a similar (non-resonated) system from Cobra Sports for when I get my GR86. For me, it's all about Tone and not about Drone. In the past I've wasted £££s on systems that sound mental on the outside but just end up making your ears numb and give headaches from the nauseating buzzing/fizzing air in the cabin. Sound should be nicer rather than Ricer 👲
The black interior of those tips looks great and they fill the bumper recess suitably. Tig welded? Whole thing looks nice, very nice! Well played.

Tone is definitely key! I do want more volume but don’t want drone at motorway speeds and I’m equally reluctant for something too bassy/farty or raspy/tinny sounding. With all the online clips I’ve been able to find have been of Japanese or US market cars without an OPF it’s not a great reflection of what we’ll experience when fitting the same system to an EU supplied car.

I agree, volume is easily achieved, but tuning for exhaust note makes for a really sweet sound. If anything, we may have gone a little safe with this first GR86 cat back, but best to go this way and work our way up, especially on a car such as GR86. Exhaust note needs to suit the car, not get you ASBO.

This!
The 6-cylinder 718's are notorious for droning even with stock exhaust.
That's why with the GR86 I wanted something that does not drone, not even a little. Very happy with the AWE Touring exhaust for this reason.

Hang fire on the Cobra, we're just about to remove a Cobra rear section from a GR Yaris and replace with ours. Customer disappointed with a very lack lustre sound. I have to say when I heard it, very dull monotone exhaust note.

Tips are stainless, may look black inside the tips but probs just camera/shadow. That said, they carbon up in no time so will look darker internally.

Absolutely, all hand made tig welded, premium quality. I'm very fortunate to have an exceptional fabricator to call upon.

Looking to be educated here: I see people talking about cat-back exhausts but don’t these cars have an OPF/GPF fitted to the system (at least in the UK?). Would you then have to remove that in order to fit the cat-back exhaust? I thought the most you could legally do here without tampering with emissions equipment was an axle-back?

Lovely welding 👌🏻 reminds me of an old GT mountain bike I had in the late 90s back when their high end alloy frames were hand welded in the US. I think the Americans use the term “like a stack of shiny nickels” when appreciating neat work like that.

Both the secondary cat (there's a primary cat in the manifold as well) and the GPF both appear to be in the front pipe, which is what the cat back attaches to. There's no need to make any changes to the front pipe to fit a cat back.

I'm not even sure there's any physical difference (sizewise) between the front pipe of a UK car with a GPF and US car without. I wouldn't stake my life on it, but I reckon a US catback would fit just fine. Pretty sure catbacks for the pervious generation would fit as well.
