GR86 Exhausts

I have the AWE touring system installed, it's been a full day so i dont have good clips just yet
Some highlights from the installation are on my instagram, dicking about mostly.

Initial impressions
Its cold start is too loud if you have neighbours.
Perfect idle, no issues, same volume as stock just different tone.
Driving casually you now know you have an exhaust, its there, but not intrusive. Music playing on low and you don't notice it.
Put some power through and that tone takes on the volume, it's always personal preference but I love what it's producing.
I believe it does crack on downshift, but tested today at low speed and nothing, which is nice. High speed untested.

The cold start is the issue with this one, but I have noticed already that if I'm moving right away, the flow must become more consistent, which really helps bring it back to a reasonable level. I'll have to get some clips of this and confirm.
With some time on it, how do you like the AWE touring @Moonballs ?
Wondering if its worth the cost vs Milltek non-resonated, Remark axelback or something else...

Made the trip over to RRG Toyota in Macclesfield (290 something round trip) to have the Cobra sport cat back exhaust fitted today and it sounds brilliant.
@chopper602 Ahh, there you are! I saw your Youtube video the other day and just had to leave a comment.Your Resonated Cobra sounds fantastic, a real 'classy' sports car tone! I had originally been dithering between the AWE (to noisy and expensive) and the Remark Axle-Back. The Remark was well ahead due to price and simplicity of fitting but, after finding a Youtube video with the owner commenting that there is definite drone and that you just need to live with it (because it's just a 'muffler delete') I scrubbed it off the list. I spoke to the guys at Cobra yesterday and the chap I spoke to was on the development team for the resonated version. He commented that the non-resonated can be felt vibrating through the floor a little when making progress, and that the resonated is far better for long journeys and has a less raspy tone.
I'm just wondering if the OEM system will fit in the boot to get it home once it's removed? My local Cobra fitting centre is way over in Glasgow and I'd hate to have to leave my OEM kit there for future collection in my pickup!

It will fit :)
I have done it with mine.

No scuffed plastics or boot lip? I’ll maybe throw a quilt in there to be sure 😁
The guys at Cobra wrapped the exhaust in Bubble wrap, so I had nothing to worry about. But I did Sheffield -> Liverpool -> Wales -> London with the Exhaust on the back and me and my partner at the front, we even managed to have 2 suitcases in the back alongside the exhaust 😅

I had mine fitted by RRG in Macclesfield and have left the OEM there, for future collection (no rush, it's on their shelving).

As an aside, we were away in the motorhome at the weekend and on the way to the Peak District popped into Sheffield for supplies, popping into a McD for something to eat I spotted this:

with what looked like an XR3 on one of the ramps.

@chopper602 Did you have any issues with an EML after the exhaust was fitted? The local EcoTune place in Glasgow said that fitting the non-resonated Cat-Back System might bring up an EML and would require a tune after fitting. They also said removal of the OEM parts and fitting the Cobra would be 2-3 hours!?
One more question - Now that you've done some miles, is the Resonated system loud enough for you or do you hanker for a bit more noise that the non-resonated system gives? I'm still on the fence between the two (Youtube sound isn't great for judging exhaust tones really)... TIA (y)

I don't have the Cobra, but assuming it's just a cat-back system, it wont be triggering EMLs. The only way that might happen is if you removed part of the exhaust which housed one of the cats (so either the front pipe or the manifold). And 2-3 hours to remove and refit a catback seems crazy. I think I managed to do mine in an hour or so, lying on my back with the car on axle stands. I'd be surprised if a garage with a lift took longer than 30 minutes to swap a catback. Think they might be trying to take the piss a bit, if I'm honest.

Had my Cobra non res on now for approx 400 miles and no sign of an EML👍
Fensport fitted mine, and only charged me an hours labour to take the oem one off and fit the Cobra.
Am loving the improvement in sound, although wouldn’t call it loud, but must make an effort to get above the 1000 miles, so as to get it in the part of the rev range where it will start to sing😉🤣👍

My thoughts too. I've sent their response to Cobra for comment as for a 'reseller' they didn't seem to get the part about it being a 2nd Cat-Back.

So no sign of cabin drone then, albeit at the lower rev ranges?

Not that I’ve noticed, in fact I sometimes have to remind myself it’s got a sport system on. Definately not intrusive. Although I’m sort of hoping that all changes when we start exploring the higher end of the rev range🤣🤣

No EML and it was fitted within about 45 minutes (on a four post lift). No idea on the labour charged, as the exhaust was sold inc. fitting.

I'm really pleased with it and it's definitely no louder than the sound generator (inside the car). I have no desire to make it any louder.

I miss the grunt of my old Polestar when in Sports mode, but that was a switchable flap and a straight six

Got the AWE Touring installed and it’s sounds great! I guess the OPF muffles the sound a bit more than on US cars as it’s not as loud as I expected and worried about. It sounds great annd absolutely no drone. You hear it all times but is civilized when you want to and only barks when you’re in the upper revs or make sudden throttle movements. It can pop and bang on downshifts but only if you blip the throttle.
Very happy with it!
