GR86 Exhausts

No, Those JDM car do not have the same GPF setup as us.

It would sound a little bit different.

I still have to upload the video that recorded the sound of my HKS Spec L ii which I do not have a chance to do so. Will probably upload sth this weekend
Thanks for confirming! Would appreciate hearing your Spec L II.

Are you happy with it?

Something shiny arrived this morning...

Unfortunately, due to not having the car back yet, I'm not going to be able to install it probably for a couple of weeks. When I do, I am going to try and get some comparison videos; however I do only have a cheap GoPro action cam and no way to attach it to the car. So it will be limited to static exterior videos and interior recordings (although I reckon interior recordings are probably the most useful anyway).

What I can comment on so far though, is the quality. Fantastic finish and craftsmanship on the bits I've looked at. Also, the weight....haven't put it on the scales but considering it's a full cat back system, I was surprised how easily I was able to lift the box out to the garage.
Indeed, They are beautiful crafted and very light-weighted ( one of the reason why I chose HKS Spec L ii)! I did not put it on the full catback on a scale but HKS claimed it is only 11.4 kg.

the fitment is also spot on which I am not surprised that it only took around 30 mins for my Mechanic friend to take the heavy Stock off and replace it on the car.

Sound wise, it is certainly sounds better, lounder and deeper than Stock. Comparing to the volume to those JDM car with the same setup, It is a bit quieter which I presume GPF is the main factor on limiting it. I would say the note is more throaty , deeper in lower end. The Top end sounds lounder, more aggressive than stock but not overly loud and obnoxious.

The most impressed thing is that it does not drone during cruising on Motorway with 2500-3500 rpm thanks to the resonator.

Overall, I am very happy with it and looking forward to see if HKS would offer catless header :).

Video to be followed.

I should hopefully be pleased then. I want the car to sound better more than I want it to sound louder, and ideally, any volume increase to only be when I'm driving it hard.

Baffles me (pun intended) that my Spec L drones so bad at 3000rpm and yours doesnt, a design which isnt too dissimilar.

Maybe I've got a leak. Going to re fit each joint although its so simple I dont know how I would manage to mess it up.

HKS even say "while the annoying exhaust drone is eliminated by the silent chamber".

Has anyone got a Milltek resonated? Winning for me so far.
I have both, never installed the resonated midpipe though. Non res is perfect, not too loud, no drone. Cold start is too loud.

Saw a clip of non res and the owner said it's hardly any louder, only a bit deeper in sound over stock. He changed the midpipe as well.

Cheers. Im more bothered about looks mainly. Cant stand the chatty stock one

Has anyone looked at the Nameless muffled axle back? It looks like 1 person on the whole of the internet might have one based on the lack of information out there! :ROFLMAO: šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

"It is significantly louder than OEM. I think it is definitely a bit quieter than a straight axleback would be, but still fairly decent volume. Based on what I’ve read and seen, I’d say it’s louder than systems like HKS Legamax, Invidia Q300, Greddy Sports Comfort, but quieter than AWE Touring or Remark Elite Catback."

I'm waiting on VIP Motorspot to confirm price and availability from Nameless (y)

My Remark axle-back should be with me tomorrow :D

Any top tips from anyone who's fitted it DIY? I think I'm going to order a hanger removal tool.

If it's cheap then fine. I used some chain lube and a long flathead screw driver and some grips. Then lowered it onto an upturned bucket so it didn't fall to the floor. Reverse to install but it's lighter and easier putting the new one on.

Any problems undoing the bolts holding the stock backbox to the midpipe?
On the old car, they were notorious for turning into mounds of rust. I'm hoping as our cars are less than a year old it will be less of an issue.

Easy. but know what you mean. When you take it off there's a fair amount of tarnish and you can see what will rust.

Good to know. When I did the exhaust on the old one, I had to remove the whole catback in one piece, get it into the garage and dremel them off. But i bought a bag of good quality stainless steel nuts and bolts to replace them with, and I think there's still some in the garage, so I'll use those.

It will come with 4 bolts. 2 for the attached piece and 2 for the main pipe

Proably trying to do the exhaust this weekend too. Should be arriving either tomorrow or thursday.

Looks somewhat complicated with some plastic bits to trim but should be ok...

And you could join the 2 sections, after hanging. Mine has the cat back 🤣

Those that have installed the Remark… did you use both the supplied gasket and the ring already on the car?
