GR86 Exhausts

I take it there’s nothing to code in the Engine management system, and no error codes popping up?

What‘s your stance on Toyota being nobs regarding warranty, and police being a bit miffed with the noise levels?
Nope, no issues. It only replaces the backbox, so everything engine management related (cat, GPF etc.) is completely stock.

As for warranty, well, RRG in Macclesfield have fitted a Cobra exhaust to their demo GR86. I think that tells you everything you need to know.

That 113dB video is completely irrelevant. UK spec cars have a GPF. Just compare my video with the US video, they sound completely different.

The exhaust is loud at certain rpms and in certain conditions. Cold start, for example, it's reasonably loud (although quieter than my Mk5 Supra was, and that only had a backbox mod).

When cruising at motorway speeds, or basically anything above 2k rpm (aside from a small blip of drone between 3950 and 4050, for some reason) its completely silent when just maintaining speed, and just a nice level of noise when accelerating.

As @KobayashiMaru86 stated correctly, the bit of drone there is, as with most axle backs, I've found to be almost eradicated by lifting the boot organiser and placing two sheets of sound deadening down. I'd rather pay £400 for an exhaust and £30 for some sound deadening, than £1,000 on a catback that gives you no additional benefit. Maybe just me.

Just following up on this, as I'm a bit concerned now.

32016-BT004 and 32016-BT001 are the SKUs for the Spec L 1 -
- 32016-BT001 for the GT86: https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product_db/muffler/db/15327
- 32016-BT004 for the GR86: https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product_db/muffler/db/29887

Then the following SKUs are for the Spec L 2
- 32016-AT123 for the GT86: https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product_db/muffler/db/21613
- 32016-AF101 for the GR86: https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product_db/muffler/db/29848

I ordered from the link above, where the item was definitely listed as the Spec L II for the GR86, but my PDF invoice has the SKU as 32016-AT123 for the GT86. Might have to follow up with them and make sure :/
It's probably the same physical product, they just need to have different part numbers for certification etc.

I'm not so sure - the pipe is a larger diameter for the GR86 apparently.
It's only a tiny different (65mm vs 60mm), so whether that makes any practical difference I don't know. Perhaps I'm unduly concerned.

I am definitely interested. Going to insure with Admiral and they only want £10 extra for declaring a modification to the exhaust system. I only want a bit more noise, so happy to keep cost down.

It’s my second car and will only be used at weekend for fun rides, drone don’t really bother me! Plus I have a Harley with a stage 1 that sounds like thunder so used to a bit of noise ha ha.

Confused me too

I'm trying to order 004, that's the updated 001. They look identical

I think the one you have gone for is the version with smaller tips

My APEXi sounds exactly the same to the US video and measured dB virtually identical. I think the gpf makes little to no difference.

Mine sounds very different. The videos are there for people to make their own mind up also. Remember, just because your experience is one way, doesn't mean that someone else's experience matches yours.

I didnt know thats what it measured, definately too loud then

The HKS Spec L mk2 (004) is supposedly 95-100 at revs.

just watch the full video, there is db-meter shown.

113db is crazy loud. You really have to hate you neighbours ;)

btw: bastuck is coming

I ordered the HKS 32016-BT004 from Fensport. Quoted mid march delivery, expecting that to be longer.

Did you email them to get a quote on delivery? I've just sent them an email to clarify the SKU number on my order and to see if they had an update on the shipping - but I had already emailed them before I ordered and got no response. I notice they don't want people to call though, so email seems the only option.
