GR Yaris ECU solution .... Is it real???

Yes, only with Syvecs. We tuned one remotely for a customer using a TTE Hybrid. It was on a Mustang Dyno which measures WHP and we finished on 368whp with Kelford Valve Springs and Kelford Cams.
Are you allowed to share more info on this car?
My car is mapped by AGs in Sweden with a TTE400, Kelford stuff, big intercooler, full Milltek exhaust, GruppeM intake and ended up with 365whp.

Limited by lack of fuel right now. Injectors, pump and E85 is the next step but frankly +400 enginge hp is more then enough at the moment. Still at original clutch but no launches and the flatshift from Syvecs is really gentle on the cluth so no problems at the moment.

My car does mostly trackdays/timeattack so driveability was the goal and not outright power. Still picked up 20mh/h on straightline speed from stock so quite a good bump in speed.

Did a 12.12 in the 1/4 mile aswell with a soft start so power is definitely there.💪🏻

It was for a customer in Italy.

The TTE, Kelford Springs and Cams etc is proving to be a popular set up. There are a few cars in the UK running this set up too.

We do know Tony at AGs, he is a top bloke and no doubt has done an amazing job on your car.

There are so many variables when measuring power on a chassis dyno so figures will always vary but your power level is what we and others are seeing with that spec. I think you have more than enough power and anymore will probably result in losing some driveability on the road and on track. It would only be worth pushing for more power if you were chasing 1/4 mile times which let's be honest, it's not really what the GR was intended for. Personally, I'd keep it where it is now with your spec as it's definitely the sweet spot.

We were looking to go TTE with our car but they have temporarily discontinued the GR hybrid turbo while they make changes to it and will release a new version. I'm not sure exactly what they're changing though.

Agree, although running on E85 can give benefits of driveability/response and lower temperatures with more timing and perhaps even a bit less boost even if power is up a bit again. And it's easy available in Sweden (so long)...

Agreed, E85 is a good option to achieve a bit more. It's just not readily available for us in the UK.

Thanks for the answer. Seems like quite a few cars with "small" hybrids are maxing out stock fuel components around 400 crank hp.

With Kelford springs and cams (I went with a) its a totlay diffrent car to drive, on the street its a bit wild on the high boost so I normally drive it in medium or even low. Still plenty of power.

Tony was the reason I went for Syvecs and not Motec as I heard some good stuf from others doing their cars there. And I'm blown away what he has done, the car is "softer" to drive and behaves exact like a original car only with some more power.

TTE was my only choice back in october when i decided to upgrade my turbo, now there is some good options if TTE cant suply at the moment. Phil is working with some crazy germans that have a nice unit coming.

Its amazing what this little enging can do. Looking forward of you testing its limits now that my wallet is empty...🤣

At the moment my injectors and pump is way to smal to run E85 and sadly the rules in Swedish TimeAttack don't allow me to upgrade but thats my next step with the engine to be able to lower the boost and maybe put less stress on it. But then I think +400 crank is not needed on a Yaris...🤣

The great thing about 'small hybrids' is the fact that you keep all the driveability of the GR with boost coming in as early as it does stock. Like you said, behaves like original, only with lots more power. When you start looking at a G25-550 and other turbo upgrades, you start to lose some driveability and introduce lag which personally, takes away from the character of the GR.

Tony is a great guy, I had no doubt that you would have been pleased with his work. We know this engine can do much more but as I said, where you are is the sweet spot in our opinion and it's probably where we will settle with our car as well :)(y)

My 'let's spend more money but not all out' idea is to stay stock turbo+hjs but E85 and springs/cams and see where that lands, bit north of 350 crank and super response would be 'nice to have'...

The cams and springs really transformed the car, holding power all the way to 7600 is a bit diffrent then stock. I have to keep telling myself not to change up just yet at 6000 like last year..🤣

What’s 400 crank equate too atw ?? Just roughly

Am
I right 300 crank is 400 bhp with 25% losses 🤯 but shouldn’t the crank be higher than whp and lost on way down to the dyno/wheels

Thanks

The Kelford Cams are only worth it if intending to go down the hybrid turbo route like you have done. The stock turbo is not efficient enough above 6000 RPM to feed the Kelford Cams and rev out beyond 7000 RPM like you can with a much more efficient hybrid turbo.

@olsperformance how do you find the standard vacuum actuator at higher power levels/hybrid setups?
A few others have mentioned it’s a limitation and a normal boost operated (if that’s the right term) actuator maybe more responsive.

I know this question wasn't aimed at me but I was being nosey..... I find the vacuum actuator juuuuuust struggles to hold 2 bar through the 6500rpm area dipping down to around 1.9bar. This is still enough for 400bhp+ on pump fuel on most hybrid turbos. Response wise won't change, the exhaust back pressure isn't high enough low down to cause it to struggle. There are some negatives to the boost references actuator too with regards to drivability, fuel economy, response between gears as you can rapidly reduce pumping losses on command with a vacuum based actuator.

If you want to squueze every last drop of boost out of it and go beyond 2 bar you need a normal actuator and mac valve boost control but going much over 2 bar on our pump fuel on these engines is really dipping into the realms of stupidity and ignoring any potential longevity problems at those cylinder pressures even the best fuels we have available at the pump become very volatile and less predictable.

Anyone looking for ultimate power on race fuel, E85 etc will have such cool egts that they will almost certainly need to move away from the vacuum actuator.

Thanks @Fensport , comment only aimed at OLS as they had been active in the thread, happy to take knowledge from anywhere.

Very good to have a summary, I don’t think over 2 bar sounds sensible as you say, great to know it’s not a limiting factor below that.

As above from @Fensport. The reality is, if you are going down the TTE route or a similar hybrid, you'll be beyond 400hp and will run out of fuel at 1.8bar ish so there will be no need to be pushing 2.0bar and beyond.

Thanks. So with a hybrid you need uprated injectors/fuel pump to max out the turbo?

Injectors yes, fuel pump no. Stock injectors can be maxed out on a stock turbo if pushed hard enough.

How much can we push the engine, clutch and other parts before problems starts showing up. I want to get more poser but i always get a feeling of " will it break, will it break?" when tuning my cars. Now i want to drive around and feel safe with everything. Stay stock is maybe the boring answer 😉
