So this is my first new car with manufacturers warranty and the process is a bit of a learning curve as I usually do all mechanical work myself. I’ve resigned myself to paying the geniuses at the dealership £500 or whatever it is to change my oil for me - but can we just fire ahead and do normal stuff ourselves like brake discs without jeopardising warranty?
We don’t have to pay someone to do all maintenance, right??

Brake discs and pads aren’t warranty items unless faulty so not an issue.
Obviously if you damage something whilst doing them which causes a problem in the future then they won’t entertain it.

Interesting you should post this as I generally do all my own home servicing.
Just returned from having a service done at the local Toyota garage. Car is three years old with a mileage of c 8000 and its had its third intermediate service. This basically is a safety check, oil and filter change. I request that they don't change the pollen filter or screen wash which saves some unnecessary expenditure. The pertinent thing is that they then issue a 12 months/10 000 warranty with the car following each of the interim services I've had (haven't the patience to read all the condition attached to this though!). Brakes overhaul etc I do myself. Intermediate service was £327 incl. a discount for being a Toyota Owners Club member.
