GR Yaris Does this serve any purpose?

Saw this product today, and wondered if there is actually any real purpose to it?

It says it is designed to release unwanted crankcase pressure. Doesn't the OE engine breather do that?

very weird product design - engine breathes normally to inlet. that would mess up the engine compartment?
That surely looks like OEM minus mod.

The OEM breather does indeed do this already, but oil vapour lowers the overall octane number of the fuel mixture going into the engine, promoting knock. If you're running more boost and therefore getting more blow-by that's when you might want to fit something like this. There are much nicer looking ways of doing it though, like an open loop catch can.

Certainly illegal to vent the crankcase to atmosphere in Oz and I would guess everywhere else too. The engine has a factory oil separator but some of us also fit a catch can to give it some help.
