Hi all. Put my car up forsale this afternoon, and within an hour have had someone wanting to come and view.
He wants to know if I would get an inspection report from digitchecks.com before he comes to view. He says that the report can only be accessed by the owner, and so wants me to pay for a report so he can view it before he comes to see the car. I have every invoice/receipt and piece of paper since the car was new, and so don’t feel inclined to pay out for a report to then be left with a no show
Now, I know there is a risk when buying a car privately, especially when purchase prices are climbing.
Firstly, has anyone used this digitchecks.com, as I haven’t heard of them (that means nothing) or is it something I should be considering?
Your views would be much appreciated.
Regards.

THIS IS A COMMON SCAM/FRAUD!
Do not do it. Your card details will be taken, stored and money stolen from your account before you know it.

Search for 'Car Buyer Report Scam' (or similar) on google. Below is what I got back earlier:

The "car buyer vehicle report" scam happens when a "buyer" contacts a private car seller on a platform like Facebook Marketplace and insists that you purchase a vehicle history or inspection report from a specific, unknown website. The site is fake, steals your credit card info, or takes your money and disappears...

Thank you Sonic, you have confirmed what I was possibly thinking👍👍

Site says they formed in 2020 in Glasgow, but 'contact us' page lists fake contact details in USA. A trawl of WHOIS database shows their website was only set up and registered 3 days ago on the 4th August with GoDaddy. It may be worth reporting the domain to [email protected] and informing them of the scamming activities. (Update - I've sent an email to GoDaddy myself). 🕵️‍♂️

Checking the supposed UK contact details brings up more fake vehicle report sites like 'Wheels Decoder', which is flagged as a Scam E-Store by Nortons.
