GR Yaris Cheapest Car for Performance

On my walk to work today, I’ve been thinking.

Is the Yaris one of the cheapest performance cars I can own. I was thinking for the power and AWD what else would return similar MPG, similar Tax, similar servicing.

I then got onto warranty, now this is hard to quantify but I’m assuming there is always something going to fail over 10 years , most other manufacturers only do 3 years thus you have 7 years potentially of failures to pay for.

What are peoples thoughts?

For reference I’m only including new cars in my comparison

Depends what you define as performance car but yes agree - with the insurance and fairly inexpensive maintenance it is rather convenient all rounder.

Generally it would be interesting comparison what costs are for instance per track or fast road km.
 
A definite 'pound-for-pound' contender.

What comes close at the same price point, for starters?
 
Hyundai Kona N will be close in a straight line but I suspect the GR will kill it on a track, especially a short and/or twisty one.
Quite like the new Kona though, if I needed more practicality on the same budget, i'd probably go for one.
What ever happened to the cheap BMW tarmac shredders like the old M140i?. That was something special at a low price point and Ford used to do really affordable racers but a Fez ST is knocking on £30k now - ridiculous.
 
I think a Renault Megane RS Trophy can keep up Performance/Track wise and price wise. But its heavier, has FWD and you have to deal with Renault workshops (i own a Renault atm and i would not recommend it, im not very impressed by my toyota dealer aswell until now to be fair). The positives are more space, power/topspeed and you can choose between manuell and automatic.
 
It doesn’t fit the criteria as not AWD, but the only new car I’d consider as a contender is the GR86.

In fact that’s the only new car now that interests me. I’ve got a FWD hot hatch that’s better than any of the current crop, so none of them are contenders. Everything else is way too expensive. Or heavy. Usually both.
 
Up until the last year the only new car that is both lightweight and can offer, in my mind, a true driving experience would have been a Lotus Elise (even then, it's not a patch on the earlier models). But then you're worse off in warranty, up front costs, reliability and practicality compared to a GRY. I only considered a classic before I bought the GRY.
 
If you look at the Elise you have to look at the Alpine A110 too. I made holiday in the UK last week and i never saw that many Alpine`s.^^
But these cars are not compareable in prices with the Yaris.
I also saw a GR Yaris on the way from London to Yorkshire. But i was too busy with driving on the "wrong" side to check the number plates.
But it was a white one with red mud flaps. Was the first Yaris i have seen in the wild. :P
 
In this case this threat will be empty. There is nothing with AWD in this price range. Audi TT quattro, Leon Cupra 4D, Golf R, BMW M140/M240 xdrive are all more expensive. So Mintmansam is right...The GR Yaris is the best performance car with AWD for the price.
 
i20n would be my choice if I replace the Yaris. A great drive with loads of kit. 5 year warranty and a bargain 25 grand via carwow.

It’s a shame Renault sport doesn't seem to exist anymore. And i doubt alpine will do a Clio or Megane.

I just can’t get excited over the 86, I looked at buying the GT86 many years ago and just never won me over and the same goes with the GR86. It also makes you realise how much car we get for the money with the 86 being close to the price of a GRY.

RIP the Megane RS.

I actually never really had much problem with the servicing either, but apart from one time they didn't clip back up the brake fluid stuff so after a service and erm, it kept disappearing after about two days.
