I've been looking into installing a catch can.
So far I've seen Airtec, Hel and Turbozentrum kits.
So far prefer Airtec and Hel, Turbozentrum one requires engine cover drilling, but Airtec and Hel seem to have tiny cans, can't find info on volume.
Does someone have any experiences / info / tips?
Cheers!

Experience from others iirc is that there's barely anything caught in the cans, so they aren't needed unless you're building a little monster living on the edge..

i beg to differ. lots of oil is pushed out of the cam cover and into the intake. when i removed by set up recently everything had an oil film on it and there were clear signs of oil getting to the turbo

That's normal?
Does not say much of the amount, I've read elsewhere of people with an actual catch can that had caught very little. For me it's a solution looking for a problem, I have very little oil consumption. But if anyone has any actual experience with a catch can that is otherwise, please chip in.

Took intake off the other day - it looked rather clean.

my understanding is Yaris cam breather already feeds into air/oil separator and not back into air intake system but would need to check that

not really, the cam cover has a built-in separator the same as a zillion other Toyotas. its not very good at its job. t. he pipe coming out of the cam cover then feeds directly into the intake

Ordered Airtec one, we'll see how much it catches once installed.

Liking the Airtec product as its baffled designed so should catch any oil and importantly any oil mist that some catch can's allow to pass into intake.

will be interesting see after few months whats in the can

This got me re-thinking about installing one

Why do you think he used an air compressor regulator rather than a catch can? Because it wouldn't show the same drama. You can blow through a catch can but no chance blowing through a regulator, especially one that small. You know Toyota already has an air/oil separator installed? Anyway, personal preference if you install or not. I have and will.

Rather clean yes but even that smal amount of oil will have a chance of introduce knock when it finds is way into the combustion chamber. You only want air and good fuel in there and no oil.

Oil separator is probably working fine on a standard engine but when you raise boost and start tuning timing you really dony want any drops of oim in there.

I have the Turbozentrum stuff, fitted nice but I dont use the engine cover for heat management so cant tell how that fits. Have a tiny amount of oil in it after every trackday so its doing something right...

can you please elaborate on why you removed the plastic engine cover or have you changed it for something else. ive been considering changing the 'scoop" arrangement on mine for circuit racing

Removed due to having problems with high temps and wanted to try if it helped... (which it did so stays on the shelf in the garage.)

same... engine cover relegated somewhere in depths of garage, get as much air flowing over engine (and then down back of engine over turbo)

This is how dirty the turbo-side of intake was after 10000km (just wiped as much as I could reach with hand, to the elbow)

off topic, but noticed damage on the pipe, what could cause it? Clumsy removal or engine heat?

catch can results after driving few days - seems not to generate much but something still.
this after maybe 100km of easy driving and maybe 5-10min WOT time.
Better to keep intakes clean.

Just to add, removed Airtec catchcan after some 20.000km. Checked the dipstick few times before, hardly any signs of oil, but never opened the can. Now with it out of the car, I've opened it and found around 1dl of waste in it, but what shocked me was the filter cap was also in the can. Fully blocked with waste. My assumption is that is got blocked and unscrewed itself under crankcase pressure.

On the photo, the cap has already been cleaned a bit and is soaking in medical benzine to try and clean it.
