GR Yaris Bronson's B-Road Blaster

Q for you, have you used the Cup 2 in rain? In anger? Any impressions?

Technically yes, gave the car a quick ride up to the Bungalow in poor weather last week and it was breaking traction under harsh acceleration. It got a bit crossed up once on corner exit, but that could be the damper and camber settings as much as the volume of water the tyres are trying to clear or me just being and idiot and trying to find the limits. It could be quite a fun tyre in the wet but you’re not going to be breaking any records…

as you've discovered those DNA top mounts aren't proper top mounts where you can fully adjust camber and caster. with these you sacrifice one adjustment for the other.
haven't seen any Yaris design top mounts with independent adjustment

Apologies for a possibly awkward question, but is it not possible to set up the top mounts for max. caster and “correct” downwards camber with the bolts then? Asking as I am not a techno guy….

Not with the DNA mounts, as we’ve discovered and as was helpfully pointed out above, you get one or the other.

The caster is set to about 6 on mine and we couldn’t get the camber below -3. To be fair in dry weather, especially with the Cup 2’s, it feels like it’s on rails.

3 years old today...(yes it was collected on a Friday the 13th!). She's just ticked over 9000 miles. Thought I would update the mods list:

Interior/Exterior:
Satin black Rallyflapz
Tegiwa mirror riser
Retrimmed alcantara steering wheel by Control Customs
Carbon gear knob
VBD seat lowering bracket
JC Clubsport carbon strut bar and rear stripped out

Suspension, brakes, wheels:
Powerflex front camber bolts
Hardrace adjustable rear camber arms
BC Racing ER coilovers with 8kg springs
DNA top mounts
Whiteline/Super Pro adjustable front and rear drop links
HEL Performance brake lines, P-Def brake shims + Motul RBF 660 brake fluid, EBC Bluestuff pads
Skunk aluminum wheel nuts, Hardrace extended wheel studs
Wedsport SA-25R 18x8.5 ET 35 with Michelin Cup 2 in 245/40 (same weight as stock)
Hardrace front strut brace
Powerflex Upper Engine, Upper Gearbox and Lower Torque Mounts (all Yellow, road versions)

Exhaust and engine:
Airtec enclosed intake
Whifbitz Titanium cat-back exhaust
Whifbitz Titanium GPF delete pipe
Pro Alloy Intercooler and boost pipes
Ecutek 'stage 2' tune (almost done!)

Bits to go on
Deadweight Industries Touge 500 lithium battery

With no rear interior, the exhaust is 10kg lighter than stock and once the battery goes in, I guess the car will be sub 1250kg?

Happier with how I want it to be now, stock on the outside and not-very-stock-at-all on the inside.

Took me too 3 years to bring it to "how I want it to be now, stock on the outside and not-very-stock-at-all on the inside.", despite not being as much modified as yours.

I am starting to almost miss the stress involved in modding it. I'm sure I'll get over it :)

I managed it to 1230kg. The most important change is the battery.

Yeah, it's crazy expensive, but nothing short of hitting the gym will take as much weight out with zero downsides!

To be fair they were £6-700 when first launched. £375 is pricey but £/kg saved it’s about the cheapest mod (come on man maths!)

Forgot the HEL clutch line off the list - it’s an easy install if you have the front bumper off. Not sure it makes that much of a difference, perhaps the slightest extra positivity to the pedal.

Got some HKS heat range 8 spark plugs and the lithium battery all ready to go.

Had Map 8 sent through from Whifbitz on the Ecutek, so have sent back idle, cruise and full throttle logs. Can’t be far off now..

Battery is in, with the CTEK quick adaptor. New spark plugs too.

Got the dampers wound up 5 clicks from maximum (30 way adjustable), previously they were on 'halfway'. Very noticeable difference - much the same on turn in, but then a lot less lean. I'm really liking these dampers, they're probably not for everyone and I don't think you could daily them, but for little blasts over the mountain etc - on a good surface, they're very capable. They cope well with camber changes in the road, I'm not tracking across or having the steering pulling out of my hands under hard acceleration, and there's plenty of feedback. They give a lot more assuredness in higher speed cornering than the stock setup.

I guess it's always about the surface and the type of driving you want to do. I can see why so many people have gone for Ohlins because of the versatility, but I've been very pleased with these BC's and I'm getting out of them what I wanted.

For anyone interested (I’m sure it’s been mentioned elsewhere) stock battery is 19kgs, DW is 5kgs.

Ecutek completed a couple of weeks ago, took a while but car pulls really nicely now.

Going to try the Hardrace harness bar, when I can figure out which harnesses I want to use. Took about five minutes to install.

Also swapped the i30N for a 2017 Ford Focus RS, which will be the daily. It has the 'usual' mods on it; intake, intercooler. Someone had lanoguarded it before too, so that was a bonus.

I forgot to add yesterday, for anyone wondering, I make these about 5.5kg each. Obviously there’s some seat brackets/frame to go on. Not sure how heavy the stock seats are. I will try and weigh everything when I get around to the installation. I have some black 3 inch OMP harnesses to compliment them.

Annoyingly I had the wrong base for the drivers side, so I need to wait a couple weeks for that to be delivered. I made the (correct) bases and brackets to be comparable in weight to the stock seat brackets, so I'm pretty confident these work out between 4-5kg lighter per seat fully installed. Pulled all of the original belts out of the car too. I went with some comfy OMP four-points.

Next on the list, Rally 1 style bonnet vents..

I had the chance to sit in some Tillet seats for the first time on Sunday and as I had read several times, they are very comfortable, which is slightly at odds with the stripped back look. Yours looks ace, especially with the CF weave 😍. Drivers side will finish it 👌
