Just got the car ready to head up the road tomorrow morning for the car’s first service and phoned the Toyota dealer to check all parts were in and allocated, oil filter is on back order current tracking for the 29/10! Struggling to understand why a consumable regular service item is not in TUK stock.

I have requested in B&W from TUK that this is on them and it will not affect my warranty etc etc. Thankfully the oil was changed at 1k.

Thought I would give a heads up on this with anyone close to service time.

Cheers

I got mine serviced today at the Hamilton garage. No issues on parts availability, plus got a wee bonus when it came in cheaper than the quoted £315 price.

This does not bode well for parts availability in a few years…

Toyota Parts Direct list it as back order too (for the filter only)

Fensport have 32 in stock.

I'm continually shocked at such a basic consumable being an issue for stock in the UK.

Good that you have, rather frustrating for me as that is the garage I use and the car has been booked in for weeks! I feel a phone call coming on. … 😤

Hmm, I'm beginning to doubt if my filter was actually changed now. I didn't call beforehand to check if they had all the required parts.

What would happen if they drained the oil, then realised they had no filter? Just refill and hope nobody notices?

If your post had been a day earlier I could have been sneaky and add a wee distinguishing mark to the old one.

I’ve asked my friend who is the parts manager for a local Toyota dealer to check and make sure they have a filter before I take mine in at the start of November.

They are available on Ebay with a washer for £17.95. I've just ordered one. Will go 0W-30 oil next time and need to find a decent brake fluid too.

Mine had its first service a fortnight ago and I did mark the filter beforehand because of the rumoured shortage. I worried unnecessarily as I collected it with a new genuine filter in place. I think the risk of reuse and charging for new is too great for garages that have a Toyota franchise.

This oil filter thing is becoming a bit of a fiasco! I mean FFS, if a dealership isn't planning their own inventory for upcoming services etc., it makes me wonder how they cope with emergent defects!?
On the service side, it might sound a bit OCD, but I mark all of my 'consumables' with the date that they were last changed. My OEM air/cabin filters have the dates on them in permanent marker pen and the oil filter is tallied on its top surface with a white paint pen (same as used for tyre lettering). The Dymo tape on the engine air filter box in the photo below lets me know what filter is fitted and when, as I take the K&N one out and put the OEM one back in several weeks before service time. All of this I track in my 'Car Cave' App [#geekmodeON] :geek:

It's because it's a Subaru filter, Toyota dealers have to make a special order, and you wouldn't keep them in stock, as there are only a few GT and GR86 around.
But if your dealer is that useless, I'd go elsewhere or source the filter yourself.

I have a Subaru and Toyota one in the garage, just in case. But I agree with Sonic, if you book a service in six weeks time - have the basics items ordered, in stock and checked. Basic stuff for a dealer.

Decided the back order could simply go to the right so a call to a local Subaru dealership and they have the filters in stock at a price that was cheaper than ordering online. Phoned Toyota dealership up and they confirmed that they would be happy for me to source the filter, after confirming that it is exactly the same one that is currently on the engine. Now booked in for next Wednesday. Far from what you should be expected to do, but needs must eh!

Just got a call from the dealer in response to my question - they confirmed they have the filter on the shelf allocated and ready for my first service next week! Fingers crossed, I’ll keep you posted.

Im afraid to mention which dealer in case it gets looted for such sought after merchandise!

Wait, huh? Is that a cheat code for Toyota’s extortionate service price?
Not really. They still charged me £235, I supplied my own oil and filter which cost me about £65 so I'm probably only saving £15-£20. They charge for all sorts looking at it. Even washer fluid which I always brim before it goes in but I was too tired at the time to query it.

Update - Took the car to Hamilton, Fiona could not be more welcoming, apologised again for the oil filter supply challenge and informed me that I would received a full refund on the filter I purchased from Subaru as this is not something they expect a customer to have to do. After I checked the car in for the service I spoke to David (Aftersales Manager) and thanked him for his support on the matter. With a number of forum members now taking their GR's to their dealership he will ensure that they have service parts 'on the shelf'.
15 minutes in and enjoying a coffee whilst looking at their white 74 plate GR Yaris MkII, David informed me that the morning parts supply had been delivered and 3 filters for the GR86 were included. One was swiftly fitted to my car and the one I had supplied returned back to me unopened, and I still received the cost of the filter back into my account! Great customer service :)
Said it previously, if you can make your way to Hamilton dealership, it is worth it.

Good to know. When I return to dealership servicing from yr3 onwards this will be the place I head for, even though my nearest Toyota dealer is only 2 miles up the road! (y)
