To Lanoguard or not is quite the question. It no doubt offers some protection against rust, but does the car need it, and will it make the car too annoying to work on?
Funny enough I was looking into this today too.

Why will it make the car annoying to work on?

Isn't it basically gunk that doesn't dry? Something that dries would form a skin and allow moisture to get behind it, making the problem worse. Happy to be corrected, I'm only going on second hand info.

It does dry it ends up being a wax (it is lanolin based which is sheep wool fat) although I would prefer Bilt Hamber Dynax over Lanoguard.

I put Lanoguard on mine a couple of months ago, just on all the exposed metal bits underneath and in the wheel arches, and put the grease on all the nuts too. I haven't checked on it since to see if it has dried at all, will have a look over the weekend. They say that you can spray onto wet surfaces as it will disperse any water, I didn't test that theory and did it while it was dry,

Mine is booked in with Preserve and Protect for their full underbody protection treatment, which takes around 7 days to complete.
Aw they’re really good. Sadly I got mine done by them last year without thinking of the consequences of a 14 hour round trip for the annual inspections….not got round to it yet (was due in November) but hopefully some time in the next couple of months.

Has anybody heard of this stuff? I’d not do it myself obv but it looks like ceramic coating for the underside https://iglcoatings.com/products/is-aegis/

I’ve done mine twice in 3 years and generally it’s not bad but I’ve only done 9k miles and it’s never driven on salted roads. I notice that any spots on suspension etc I’ve missed are pretty rusty, 1970s escort style. Nothing on the shell itself but the hollow tube subframes look like they really need care to me. Anyone remember the evo/scooby era?

I bet they charge a good price for that.
Have done mine three times now - each autumn after a good spray clean underneith and a week to dry properly. Bought mine in May 21 and spent 5 months spraying the whole underneith with AtomMac. About 5 times before the first full spray with Lanoguard each October.
It is a doddle and just the time needed which takes me a morning using self made ramps.
8k miles and I do use through winter and it hasn't a mark underneith.
A £55 container does the GRY 2-3 times.
It is very satisfying to do it yourself and I can do it, have a beer and go back to it and give it another spray while I have the ramps out. Its cheep enough, just the time.

I have no interest driving in the salt so I’m just leaving it. Not a massive fan of sticky under seal. Tends to attract more dirt.

That’s true but it’s only stuck on dust so it still comes apart like new. One of my cars lives in a garage and it’s not used in the rain and I’ve only done that one once in 8yrs. It’s dusty but it’s always easy to work on. I really hate fighting rusty bolts !

Mine is used daily , knowing Beds council they will spread their salt very thin and on only major roads. I'm just sticking to B roads , enjoying a twitch or too from the car and how it deals with it. As the driver of the car I must make slight adjustments to my butt cheeks. No stained drivers seat YET

Are we saying our cars chassis will rot away in 10 years . Does anyone know how long a carbon roof lasts ?. We could be driving a convertible before our chassis rots away.

I prefer to use duck oil. It’s a lot lighter and isn’t sticky. It resists the water but you do need to apply every few months.
My car is going to be a weekend summer toy so will very rarely see rain anyway.

Had my 1st service done today and whilst I was there the chap showed me the state of some underside fittings after only 12 months! Thankfully, the car is going in for a full underside treatment in a couple of weeks, so this will get cleaned, preserved and protected. I dread to think how it would be by year 3 onwards if left as it is! 🫣

Yeah I got some underseal done on my last detail as mine lives outside and I didn't want it looking too shoddy underneath. Least you've caught it in time! :giggle: (y)

I used Lanoguard when i bought mine a year ago, havent looked under it since... but will do it again this week. Use Lanogaurd on our disco 2 which goes off roading and works well keeping that chassis fine.

Can I ask how much it is to underseal the car
