Hi,
Stock 2023 GR86. Since purchasing the car new 2½ years ago I’ve used a mix of wireless connectivity between my iPhone and the car (phone & music only) and wired using Apple CarPlay (phone, music and satnav). In both set ups I’ve scrolled and switched between menu options using the car’s touch screen only, I’ve not chosen to use either the car’s own voice control or Siri for these.
As of yesterday:
- wired & within CarPlay the touch screen function has gone and the system now wants a voice command. Couldn’t scroll to select a phone number, option to change album within music and set/alter a SatNav destination.
- However, when used wirelessly, changes and control of the phone and music were possible using the touch screen.

Question 1, any idea what I may have or have not done as I haven’t.
Question 2 , any idea how to get Apple CarPlay back to a touch screen configuration without voice commands.
Question 3, for those using a separate wireless dongle, does this to allow wireless CarPlay with touchscreen operation.

Thanks for looking.

Q2.
Touch screen in Apple CarPlay works if car is stationary and voice commands once on the move.

Salko, Matt, thanks for replies and others for looking.

Salko,
My post was a result of the behaviour of the wired set up changing.
Currently, as noted in your reply: the touch screen settings work when the car stopped or is slowing to stationary. As I slow the keyboard icon ‘un-greys’ itself as you come to halt.
Previously within CarPlay the touchscreen with keyboard entry was available at all speeds.
From the web, I understand that this is how Apple wish it to work however, a week or so ago, this for me was not the case, hence my post.

By contrast, when connected wirelessly changing CDs or playlists is still possible on the touch screen.

Matt,
My last question, was because when running CarPlay in a 90s Honda via my phone talking to a stand alone head unit and a blue tooth dongle the keyboard is entry is available irrespective of speed. An Ottocast maybe the way forward for me.

Thanks again.
