Alpine A110 Discussion and deals

A GT is pushing £70k.

VS a £15k or so final payment on a Mk1 GRY just seems mad, even if the finance is 0% vs 7%.

Certainly where I'm at

The only other idea rattling around in my head is a low mile 987S, add Ohlins and Quaife

I had one for a week in Mallorca and loved it. I had test driven an S for an hour a year prior too.

I did have French hatches growing up so maybe that helped.

It was so light feeling and fun. One day hopefully I will get one. I see why in the UK most will get a Cayman over it as it has the Porsche badge but I didnt think it felt cheap and I didnt miss the manual either. I think the shorter ratios mean you shift more often and since its not crazy fast you can enjoy using more of the power more often.

One morning I got up at 6am just to go for a drive before the cyclists were on the fun roads.

I agree the boots are very impractical. The car look tiny on the outside but in the cabin there is loads of space.

Finally got to see one of these in person for the first time just the other week (having seen an original A110 for the first time some years ago). It's really lovely-- the pictures don't do it justice. It oozes-- well, seeps-- a sort of restrained elegance. It's lagom*.

*Or, at least, how I understand lagom.

Seems like a good deal, but I'd say to anyone before getting tempted with the idea of one, give one a test drive. I did, expecting it to blow me away after all the reviews, but I didn't gel with it in the hour I managed to get a drive for. I think I missed the interaction of a manual too much. Maybe you need to have one for a while to appreciate it (Harry only seems to review cars he's been given for a few weeks). It's a shame real potential customers are lucky to get an unaccompanied drive, compared to journalists and "influencers" that seem to just be given the keys, but that's the same for all new cars.
I was looking at a daily driver, and for me it was just too impractical, but if it's a weekend toy then that's very different.
Also, it's double the price of a GR86, to me it's not twice the car. Finance deals though are very tempting, which I guess means they must be eager to move as many as they can.
You can't beat dancing on 3 pedals, you just CAN'T!

I had a test drive in a for sale local to me alpine a110s in metallic white, first impressions on seeing it was how much netter it looks than the photos, interior was pleasing and the seats in their lowest setting really worked for me.
The owner took me for a drive and the induction growl behind your ears almost sold the car there and then, I was really pleased with it's acceleration and the speed of gear shifts, he pulled in and let me drive, I kept reaching for a gear lever lol,I loved driving the alpine and would have seriously considered buying ,BUT, mrs idrinkbeer just didn't gel with the driving position nor the very limited storage spaces.
I to be fair reciprocated with the gr and let the seller of the a110 have a drive.....he loved it.
Anyone interested in a stunning a110s under 40k then this ones in lisburn n ireland uk.

I really like these but the only thing that puts me off buying one is the auto box. If they did a manual version I would look further. Absolutely no interest in stupid flappy paddles.

There is one of these in the same colour down the road. It's a lovely car. I would quite happily own one I think. Wouldn't mind having a go!

Went and had a chat at my local dealer. Had a Yaris outside that they’d part exchanged. Apparently I’m the 4th GRY owner they’ve had in the last week or 2.

I don't know if it's because Alpine UK don't appreciate the prospect of GRY owners switching to Alpine, but the GRY doesn't appear on the list of cars they mention you need to have in order to participate in their promo track day:
