Just found this…

It’s not totally clear, but the way I’m reading it is that the GR86 will fail on head protection for pedestrians. I know currently you need a certain distance between the bonnet and engine to allow it to deform a bit on impact with a pedestrian, maybe this is increasing and would mean a higher CoG that would ruin the handling. Either way I’d still rather get hit by a GR86 than a big SUV.

A good find👍 If it is to do with bonnet / engine clearance it begs the question will the Supra pass that? I already asked that question via Toyota social media and got the usual “no information“ response. As the current Supra is could be coming to the end of its lifecycle ( BMW not replacing Z4) Will the Supra disappear too as Toyota could have shifted as many GR86 in a few hours as the entire sales of the Supra over 3/4 years 🤔

Given the 86 has a flat-four I would’ve thought it was already at an advantage here?

I thought I’d read it was the electronic aids that would need to be added, and as a Subaru systems are involved and they basically don’t sell cars in Europe any more, it wasn’t going to be worth doing the development to add them.

The line where front window /hood meet is basically as low as a 911 with the difference there's an engine in the front. Increasing the height of the nose/hood would completely ruin the design....
