GR86 Focal 2 way component OEM retrofit

Not yet. I reset to default and se the mid to +2, and I think I've got all the gimmicks turned off (bass boost, beat enhancer thing). Sounds pretty good, but I am by no means an audiophile, so tbh I was hoping someone else might come along and share some settings :D

I fitted the Focals today as well. l put sound deadening inside the doors and around the speakers. Bass is definitely better controlled. Reset all the settings to the defaults.

Does anyone know how much sound deadening material is needed for the door? Maybe a 10 inch X 10 inch each side to cover the speaker size? Or is more better?
I managed to get a piece in each door measuring 50 x 15 cm. That was cut into three rough squares to aid installation just like @Dal3D showed in his excellent set of photos. (Edited)

Anyone just tried changing only the tweeters in the front to see if it makes a bit of difference? (until I pluck up the courage to remove the door cards)

What is all that cling film over the inside of the door? Would it make a difference if I accidently ripped it during an install? Is it replaceable?

It's vapour barrier. A lot of the "inside" of the door skin isn't weatherproof (water will run down the window surface and into the door, there's drain holes at the bottom outboard of the door seal), so it's there to protect the interior door card from moisture that gets inside the door as a matter of course.

How bad have you ripped it? You can see there are holes in it to allow cables to pass through, so it's already not absolutely air tight. But I think you'd want to leave it as intact as you can. I'm sure it can be replaced, but it would be a bit of a pig, especially as it's stuck to the door with that bitumen type seal.

Just tank tape up any rips. If you really wanna replace it, DPM or thick polythene like what mattresses come wrapped in are suitable replacement.

But the vapour barrier must stay! Can't say I can see any damage on your pic though

I've had my driver's door card off about 6 or 7 times at least and I've still not broken even so much as a clip.

It's easy and they go back as good as new.

Fitted the PUZU C7 today and wow.... Those Focals work well! If you've spent the £150 on the Focals, you must spend the extra £100 on the Puzu DSP. Can't really share the sound imrovement on here but take my word for it, if you've got the Focals, it's a no brainer.

The sound is night and day different and the Focals get the power they deserve to get them moving. Now how to stop all the newly discovered rattles!

Just enough room to stick it in with double sided on top of the glovebox, below the air bag.

AND.... The Screen is definitely angled towards the left of the car. Many say it isn't but after spending a couple of hours in the passenger seat, you can blatantly see it is. As its angled slightly to the left, the screen is much clearer and has less reflection than when looking from the right. It's not a lot, maybe 5deg but enough to notice a difference in clarity.

To me this is the only way to do it. Its pointless going to the effort of buying and fitting Focals with massive magnets to then just power them off the headunit.

Is it? Took me about 30 minutes to fit the speakers and I'm already well pleased with the result. Granted, I'm not an audiophile so my expectations are probably quite measured anyway, but it's certainly not pointless from my perspective. I am now able to sing along to Sledgehammer at vastly increased volume.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that amp will make things even better, and if that was an easy fit, I'd go for it at well. But just looking at that picture of the dashboard in pieces is giving me palpitations. @ninjin, as above....any guides on how to fit it?

Very interesting! I was considering the Beat-Sonic mini amp here, for £270. https://www.caraudioexpress.co.uk/products/beat-sonic-pa2t1-micro-power-amp-kit-for-toyota

This is a self-contained plug and play solution.
How have you integrated the Puzu? Did you need to run power from the battery?
