GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

New rear discs as the old ones were fecked, to put it lightly (car had sat for a week in the rain so the below makes it look a lot worse, but the corrosion had set in). I wish I was as mechanical as some on here and not on the same scale at all but good to do by yourself.

Hadn’t done this before but isn’t much different to just changing the pads, which I’d done for the fronts before. It’s the little bits that get you though eg one of the pad carriers had nicely cold welded to the caliper and just would not budge. Cue much brake cleaner and degreaser plus a rubber mallet (luckily all braking surfaces were being replaced so could be a little more liberal) and an hour later it was finally out with lots of nice new chips in the caliper paint to match.

Similarly, you only learn from experience that the cog for handbrake adjustment needs the entry hole to be at about 6 o’clock to access it, then you wonder why the hub won’t spin and it’s because you’ve left the car in reverse and with the hand brake partly still on. After 20 mins of diagnosing and sorting that, you realise that you readjusted the tension with the handbrake still off (but thanks to Foxspeed for a guide from 4 odd years ago here). Luckily the wheel hadn’t been fitted yet when I noticed.

Anyway, probably a couple hundred quid on labour saved for an easyish job, and I made sure to grease the pins and sliders for next time round. Sure it’ll be easier now I’ve done it once before. Apart from oil changes and spark plugs, not really sure what else you could do wear and tear wise by yourself, but need that all important stamp in the book so it’ll still go for proper servicing 🤷‍♂️. It’s a little disheartening to see how grimy everything gets as the years tick by, but without proper ramps, tricky to do a deep clean too.

Brand new, just released Hot Wheels GR Yaris.

The proportions are spot on, which is rare at this size. Most diecast versions of this car end up looking a little off, but this one finally gets it right.

I wanted a plain white, stock looking one in the correct colors and they absolutely nailed it. It’s got a clean rake like the real car, and it’s not sitting stupidly high either.

They genuinely crushed this release.

I found it on eBay. No luck in stores since it’s still limited and everyone’s hunting for it. It wasn’t cheap, but I had to have it lol. Also scored a white FD2 Type R, my two favorite cars atm.
Trying to hold off ordering one of the expensive ones off eBay, as I know once my 5 year old lad catches sight of it I will no longer own it :D

As I just nudged over the 20,000 mile mark, I gave the car a really good clean.

Then topped it up with 99 octane, and took it out for a lovely drive through some of the wibby-wobblier bits of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

It turns out that the wibby-wobblier bits of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire are somewhat wet and muddy, so it now needs cleaning again.

I'm on early 19,000 miles , weather has been crap in England so cleaning has been very difficult. A quick blast with a pressure washer has had to do.
I hope you had a big smile on your face during the drive.

Oh absolutely, and even though I've had the car over 4 years now it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it...when there aren't too many potholes.

I suspect that I do annoy quite a lot of drivers though as I'm pretty good at staying within the spirit at least of the speed limits, but have no qualms about going between them in a spirited manner. It's not uncommon for cars to be clearly quite annoyed that I'm doing 30 in a 30, and then just as they have readied themselves to overtake me as we get to the NSL, I magically disappear, only for them to catch up half a mile later and be clearly quite annoyed that I'm doing 60 in a 60.

Then they overtake only to be stuck behind a lorry... and I overtake them both as I've sat back, got a clear view and see to get past as I'm not glued to the lorry's number plate...

Oh, and I still delight on putting lots of distance between us on roundabouts because lightness and grip.

Yes. Massive smile. 95% of the time.

I didn't get a pic of the Yaris getting a bath but I did do some washing with my larger engined vehicles

And yes, I did wash the neighbour's car afterwards

26 hours later my drive still looks like it has snowed

finally managed to change the wheel studs for longer ones. 3 wheels went just fine, but front left axle nut was completely seized. end result = thread was damaged and nut needed to be hacked out by brut force. new axle installed. now I am €800 lighter :)

I gave mine its annual wash (only half joking). I utterly hate washing a car/anything to do with bodywork and probably end up scratching it and making it worse than if I'd left it, despite best efforts with snow foam, catch guard in the bucket etc. It is nice to see the original lines though and it does look a bit better.

Anyway, found this nice paint chip on the front wing (2nd photo, was taken pre wash so definitely wasn't from me). It's about half a thumbnail long but just wondering what best course of action would be?

I don't mind if it stays as in my experience touch up paint never seems to look nice, but just wondering on the best way to stop it progressing. Pretty sure this panel is aluminium but that can obviously still get corrosion.

Finally got OBDLink LX + Torque pro + aa-torque working. Wasn’t that hard to be honest, helps when the pioneers of the forum did all the exploration four years ago :)

Not loving the look of it, I will look into creating my own graphics that is more suited to our cars.

Also swapped in a new cabin filter from Meyle. Trying to cut down costs before the 20k km service. The old filter looked ok, perks of parking in a closed garage I guess.
