GR86 Best induction kit for airflow?

Is there any evidence of this? I did a bit of reading and it seems like this idea that oiled filters foul MAF sensors might be a bit of a myth, and K&N have even directly addressed the issue: https://www.knfilters.co.uk/maf/massair.htm
I've seen the gunk personally and had to clean it off.

I swear the sensors are never quite the same after cleaning.

I ordered a Blitz intake pipe but it could drop mid torque so I'm trying to cancel it. I definitely want something with more noise but don't want to lose anything. Only have a K&N panel filter for now.

Does anyone either have experience with the "Outbound Motorsports intake snorkel" or with simply removing the 90 degree angle snorkel, mostly in pursuit of more induction noise?

I was reading the mostly american forum (gr86.org), and saw a German user who said that he had removed the snorkel which runs horizontally just behind the front bumper, before taking a 90 degree turn into the airbox (see picture for the part he removed).
He claims this has greatly improved the induction sound, without any inherent disadvantages.

A similar and probably better (though more expensive) solution is the Outbound Motorsport Cup car Intake Snorkel. This is a 3d printed kit modeled after the intake on the GR86 Cup car, and replaces the OEM snorkel, improving induction noise. Interestingly you can get it as a kit, which includes plugs for both the large resonator box as well as the small "bladder" thing, just before the intake manifold. Isn't it generally believed that this small is beneficial to the midrange torque (as KobayashiMaru86 is refering to)?

Anyone on here have tried either of the solutions?

So finally decided and got my hands on the KN induction kit.
Wow - looks a peach to me and sounds fantastic. With there being minimal sound deadening in the GR, you can really hear the induction roar at high revs. Only given it a short spin after install but will aim to give it a good run down to Newby Hall for the sportscar event this weekend.
Install was okay, however you have to cut your heat sink and rubber lining - come on KN, for the price this could have been done at factory. The filter came really well oiled so would advise giving that a wipe before install to avoid check engine lights.

For those on the fence, I'm not worried about more or less ponies, it still sounds great to me and looks the part. Only thing missing now is a tasty exhaust to match.

Cheers.

Nice! Where did you buy it from, and how much, if you don't mind me asking?

Amazon for me as I had some gift credit - came to under 500 of your hard earned cash. You could probably get a bit cheaper if you google around.
Worth every penny

Thanks. Still considering. A lot of money for noise, especially when you have to do a lot of the putting together yourself. Then again, same could be said for exhausts.

@Infinity any update regarding your intake system? Do you have any videos you could share?

Finally got someone to help me upload a video of the KN induction sound from the Newby Hall run. Sounds even better when driving inside the car.
Enjoy.

Been a couple of weeks now, you still happy with it? Any issues to speak of?

I remember you mentioned the Remark axle back was way too loud for your taste? I have both the Remark axle back and the KN intake. Honestly the intake is noisier than the axle back, at least in the interior. I mean I love the sound, it is a great intake. But might not be for you if you found the axle back noisy.

I feel like the intake does 65% of the noise and 35% is the axle back. I had the KN intake on with my stock exhaust for a while and going from stock to the KN was like “holy moly this is LOUD, videos don’t do the justice”. And adding the axle back to the KN was like “great symphony together but not as loud as I thought it would be from the videos”

Oh wow, I didn't think it would be louder than exhaust noise. I only didn't like the Remark because of the drone and the cold start but the rest of the time it was okay. But is the intake noise constant? I kind of expected that under partial throttle/light load it wouldn't be much louder, but would give a nicer growl on open throttle and high revs...which is kind of why I'm interested with intake mods...I like the car to be loud when driving hard, but civilised the rest of the time.

The intake definitely sounds stock or 90% stock when driving casually below 3.5k rpm and giving linear throttle inputs . But once you step on the gas it growls!

Don’t get me wrong, the sound is great and I love it. If I had to choose only one between an exhaust and the KN intake, I would take the intake 100%. The intake noise is just there with you in the cabin and it is a noise of power being made. Boxer exhaust noises are nice but the noise is far away behind you and it is a noise of power already made…

Edit: my post regarding the intake from earlier:

See, that's what I like; I want the engine to growl when you floor it. I'm hoping it will add a bit of noise when higher up the revs too. I agree, I tend to think a loud intake is preferable to a loud exhaust.

If anyone wants a 20% discount on K&N I got a voucher from Collecting Cars Coffee Run at the weekend.
Just enter COLLECTINGCARS20 in the promo code section.
Its generice code so can be used by many people.
They now do an oil free panel filter so it doesn’t screw up the MAF sensor.

Can you explain the thing with the filter?
