Well surprise the buying process was a s**t show. Massive lack of clarity over how to buy; I had a deposit with a dealer and at the same time placed an “early bird” order, which turned out to be GR86 number 2.
The car came very quickly then sat in Derby for months on end with no update. Then to further increase my frustration cars started getting released in Dec 22 and they couldn’t tell me when my would be released. After a couple of weeks they found my car and got it on Christmas Eve.
I drove it straight out to some favourite Berkshire b roads and I was stunned. The feel, the response, the balance, the looks.
By far the best drivers car I've owned by a long margin over Civic EK VTI, Integra type R DC2, R33 Skyline, E90 M3, and M135i.
Closest comparison is the DC2, very similar in feel as the DC2 was basically rwd in feel, light and revvy. But this offers much more through its modernity and civility.
Love the interior looks great, not cheap and although could be bigger for me (I’m very tall); I manage fine even on long runs.
This is no GT car though, as I was reminded recently when I took my family car, a B8 Audi 3.0 TDI Avant on a long run and felt like a could’ve carried on to southern france with no issue. Not so in the GR, it’s tolerable but not relaxing.
Couple of rattles were resolved by Toyota (after I showed them). Recall eventually cleared. First service was a joke, no oil filter, so had to return.
I’ve done a few mods; Billetworks Hyper Blue Gear Knob (lifts the interior), APEXi N1-X Evolution Extreme Exhaust (perfect sound), Steering Wheel Extender (definitely worth it), Toyota Ducktail Spoiler (definitely worth it), Toyota Aero Cover (waste of money), Cusco Pedal Extender (definitely worth it), Toyota Cargo Net (definitely worth it), 1 of 1 GR86 Boot Mat (the pinnacle of mods).
And of course my bootstrap: https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/gr86-boot-closing-strap.3582/ with proceeds last year going towards a local kids charity for Christmas presents.
The infotainment system is brilliant, the speakers are poo, AC great, cruise is ace, indicators are totally fine!
I've had the best drives of my life in this car. My friend who has a Tuscan, 911 997 GTS and an Emira loves it.
The car flatters my driving style and encourages me to learn more and be better. No mashing your foot down to feel good about yourself here.
I use this as a daily; covering 9000 miles in its first year. I have a route to work which is primarily b roads, I can use every ounce of the cars performance and have the best time just on the way to work. Also a couple of roundabouts thrown in to carry a little slip through when safe without being bonkers.
No reliability stress. Great mpg
It looks epic in electric blue, and get tons of compliments and people trying to race me.
This is my first ever new car, and although I don't shy away from using it in all weathers, it does bother me when I pick up damage in a way it hasn't before. I didn’t do PPF and have plenty of chips to show for it.
Anything else I drive feels like a boat by comparison. This thing is properly epic and drive it much as I can. I really can't imagine anything being better, for me it's utter perfection. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
