GR86 GR86 2025 or 2028!

Unfortunately, somebody has deemed it a necessary "safety" precaution for all new cars in Europe to pull the steering wheel off course, veer all over the road and slam the brakes on for no reason.

This would mean implementing all the associated radars , cameras and other junk required to make these systems "work". There isn't any space for it on the toyobaru.

Another BestCar special, about as reliable as The Sun's weather reports '100 day artic blast'

It's absolute nonsense and poor effort from Toyota/Subaru, especially so given that the BRZ comes with eyesight which is 95% there. Apparently the roof is too low for the tech to fit, how comes Mazda can still manage to sell the ND MX5, the thing is the size of a shoebox.

I for one am not upset at the lack of a “driver aid” which attempts to steer you into oncoming traffic and throw you through the windscreen by applying the brakes heavily whenever it gets a whiff of a wheelie bin sat on the pavement you’re travelling alongside.

I wholeheartedly agree. I think the GR86 has the perfect blend of gadgets and simplicity.

car play / android auto - better than almost all built in sat navs and infotainment
normal cruise control - doesnt slow down when you're still 10 seconds from the car in front - I find adaptive cruise control is increasing the number of motorway lane hoggers because of this.
Buttons / nobs for the HVAC
no lane keep assist or automatic braking crap
manual handbrake, but hill start assist
reversing camera
I've never had a heated seat before, but I have to say that having picked up the car at the start of winter, its a welcome addition.

After spending 4+ years with a type R which would randomly throw my passengers face towards the dashboard, prompting a "that wasn't me" from yours truly, I was made up when I found out the GR86 didn't have any of it.

There is no point for them spending any more money - everyone who really wanted one got it, sales peaked due to press and I seriously doubt they would sell that many more units even if they redesigned.

I’m very much of the same mindset, minor quibbles of the low resolution screen, poor speakers and omission of rear parking sensors aside it really does strike about as good a balance as you could hope for in a new car.

Even the lack of the stop start necessitating you having to disable it every single time you get in the car is a breath of fresh air !

I actually prefer a camera to rear parking sensors, I find it much more useful than the car beeping like mad only to find you’ve still got a foot gap!
The stop start works well on my run of the mill 120D and I welcome it in that so I don’t have to listen to the diesel clatter. But I agree, I don’t miss it in the GR86.

What apps do you you use for infotainment? I use Spotify, Waze for satnav, and then the inbuilt radio, but the inbuilt radio is a bit weird.
I agree, the radio screen does look weird, like an old teletext page.
