GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Do you find the wheel in the boot makes a bit of noise over bumps ? Was thinking of having it out and applying some sound insulation to the bare metal underneath.
Because I had a couple of spares laying around in the garage, I cut a foam interlocking mat to size and put that in the bottom of the wheel well. With another hole in the middle I was able to insert the wheel retainer through the spacesaver wheel, through the mat, and into the thread on the chassis. I also cut out a washer from a cork floor tile to use with the retaining nut so that it didn't mark the hub of the spare when tightened. It all sits nice and secure to the floor with no movement at all over bumps etc,. Cheap but effective.

My daughter returned to University this weekend. With the car’s boot and folded back seats offering good luggage capacity, a good excuse to give the GR86 a good run through the Scottish Borders, along the M6/M5, and then some twisty roads in the South West. 450 miles later the car remains great fun on rural roads, and not tiring on the motorways. And a good reminder why I bought it. Good driving conditions and quiet roads helped I’m sure. Passed by a clean white GR86 on the M5; my first in the wild.

Car needs a wash now; and can recommend the Nobody’s Inn in Doddiscombsleigh. Great food, ale, and room. Now for a few days exploring Devon’s lanes and local hostelries.

Ooh that journey is a slog. When I was based down there it was my weekend ‘commute’; Plymouth to Dunfermline on Friday, return leg on the Sunday 😵
It was made slightly better by the fact that I (sometimes we) did the driving in the UK’s fastest known road vehicle - a hire car!
Good to know the 86 held its own 👍🏻

If anyone should wish to give themself a sore back , may I recommend applying some sound deadening around the boot floor.

To be continued.

I'd suggest temporarily removing the space saver foam and covering the rest of the boot floor, if you have enough sound deadening material. Although the foam might act as a sound insulator as it is.

I have yet to hear any clunking or other alarming noises coming from the rear of my car since installing mine, although the downside is that the exhaust is a bit quieter inside the car. Thankfully the Remark axleback is loud enough as it is, and only annoys my neighbours on cold-start.

Definitely won't be any alarming noises coming from our cars

Given the frightening cost of headlight replacement (see headlight woes thread), today I booked the GR86 in to have an Xpel PPF headlight protection kit fitted at my local accredited installation centre. Cost is £80 but, I added in a full wash and prep prior to fitting so that was an extra £20. A little less to worry about prior to Japfest 😉

I think that's not a bad move

Drove to work in -5. No snow, just cold. Plenty of sideways moments, even spinning uphill until the tyres warmed up a bit. Car is proper minging.
Mine's the same, it's not done many miles during this cold snap but still somehow it's caked in white salt. I would desperately love to at least give it a foam and pressure wash, but I have to wash my car in the road and I don't think the neighbours would appreciate me turning it into an ice rink. Will have to wait until it warms up next week :(

Should clarify it's wheel spin, not spinning out. Only once I've come close to this and resulted in a quiet drive home.

Had early oil change at Lindop Toyota Queensferry today. £150. They topped up screen wash and put air in all 4 tyres as well as inspected all 4 for punctures(was watching from mot viewing area)In and out in 55 minutes.
Also bought spare oil filter and crush washer from them for £15.(subaru branded)

Had my first service. Thanks to this forum I had bought an oil filter in advance which they needed. Otherwise the visit was unremarkable.

I've also taken delivery of my Cobra resonated cat-back exhaust. 😁
Just need to arrange for a garage to fit it now .

I’m thinking about getting one of these. Is this louder or quieter one? Would like to hear your thoughts once you have it on.
