GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

They seemed surprised that it had a Subaru-branded one already.
Really!? Did they not see the big ‘Subaru’ written across the top of the engine?
Presumably there must be a Toyota-branded one on back-order…
Dunno how that would be as Toyota have that same part number listed.
Has anyone come across the oil filter (15208AA170) with a Toyota badge on it?

Will update on the outcome

Will update on the outcome once concluded, so far the car has been flat bedded to the dealer by Toyota assistance and I have a vauxhall Corsa in a fetching burnt orange as a loaner.

When I mentioned to the flatbed driver thar I reckon they forgot the sump plug washer he said I'd be surprised how often that happens 🤦‍♂️
As suspected, they hadn't tightened the sump plug enough. There's a nice puddle of oil in front of the dealer where they parked my car before I collected it last week 😂. I've been assured they swapped the crush washer for a new one when they fixed it 🤔

I had a terrible buying experience with Toyota Gatwick but they changed hands so thought I'd give them another chance.. impossible to get through to service dept without calling repeatedly for an hour. I've never had them call me back a I always have to call again and finally they left me with a dangerous car for what must be the most basic error in car maintenance.

Hilariously was offered max £200 off my next service with them. I agree the service should be free but after some arguing settled for £200 refund now rather than go through protracted complaints procedure.

Any dealers with a good reputation in the south east I could use in future? Independent is tempting but in case I don't keep the car long term I want the resale value of Toyota service stamps and it has to go to them after 3 years for warranty anyway.

Now its back I've got some focals to install, a sound generator to unplug and to find somewhere to paint the wheels dark bronze 😁

Yeomans Worthing could be worth a go.

@BanjoGazooey just as @ZN8 says above, an independent Jap Specialist will serve you better than Toyota. FDSH makes no difference to resale compared to FSH, as long as you have the stamps. You can always go back to Toyota in year 3 onwards, if you can stomach the £150+ /hour labour charges 😳

I picked mine up from Snows in Waterlooville and they were very good. My first service is booked for the start of February at Snows Chichester as it’s local for me. I haven’t used them for servicing but my friend had a GRY and said they were great so giving them a try based off that.

Its really bad that this has happened to you @BanjoGazooey . I hope there are no issues down the line.

I am planning to use Abbey Toyota in Redhill. A parts and service centre, not a full dealer:

Not taken my 86 to them yet, just six months since collection, so cannot vouch for them with the boxer engine. But they were happy to sell me a 10 year Toyota service plan when Gatwick told me it wasn't possible.

First service complete at the second attempt. While waiting I saw this. Tempting to write "but even if we find a better way we'll carry on being crap" underneath.

That's good to know

Drove 130 miles round trip to have a service in the last two days, back parked in the garage 🤣 I always said it would be a garage queen, but the weather has been so miserable up here I just take the defender most days at the moment.

After the first set of [GR] graphics were deemed too large for the OEM calipers, the helpful guys at Skidz in Falkirk had a small custom set made for me and today I took another trip across to have the calipers finished off. For my inconvenience; £50 discount, graphics and re-lacquer FOC and a free box of Angelwax Interior Essentials for when I get around to cleaning the car. 🤗
Next up - Powder Coating for the Wheels … Oooh, what colour to choose ?🤔

I think Black goes well with the Neptune Blue, but maybe Grey or Silver could be good options.

Calipers look like a great match. Definitely a nice touch.

I was thinking of maybe a ‘Hyper Black’, which is super glossy, a brighter ‘Shadow Chrome’ or even a combination of Blue & Hyper Black (like in the below example which has extra blue) but, not with the silver bits obviously…

Lovely colour on those calipers. I might just mirror that with a DYI job in the spring.

In terms of wheel colours, it depends on how adventurous you feel. I agree with the comments that black wheels go well with neptune blue paint and the other black accents on the car. However, I personally dislike the look of wheels that blend in and "disappear" into the car.

Gold can look really good with this paint colour, but it's a very marmite colour. You could choose a more subtle titanium grey if you wanted something that makes the wheels stand out a bit from the dull black, but fits into the existing theme. Silver is a very classy choice and looks really good on OEM wheels. White could give it a more toy-car look, but I don't think that works with the stock wheels.

I suggest playing around with the tirerack configurator. Choose the GR86 in neptune blue, and filter by 18" 10 spoke wheels (such as Enkei TS-10s) to get an idea of what they may look like on your car.

On a side note, I may be returning to this thread in a couple of weeks with a set of a very unusual gold and silver wheels...

Nice job on the calipers.

I’d keep the wheels as they are, the car looks great.

Massive surprise coming.......

Service taking place today annnnnnddddd nooooo filter 🤦‍♂️

Having to rebook for 9th Jan FFS.

They have apparently done the programming following helpful instructions here. 👍

Seriously considering binning off this service plan and going to Fensport.

One of the jobs I *really* need to get done on the car (wheel colour), but the place that would do it, need the car for two days and I use it to get to work and back. MrsTheWife doesn't work far away, but it's just a bit of a faff. Might have a look in the NY, but I'm tempted to go for a bronze or graphite type colour.
