They’ve proven to be utterly incompetent at an elite level time and time again so it comes as no great surprise really at this point.
Agree. No surprise whatsoever. A couple of us predicted something like this on this forum a few months back (and I am sure many others had the thought too). Ultimately, they will need to clear whatever residual unordered/cancelled/rejected stock they have. And although many of us won’t like it, if they want they can offer a deposit contribution or a screen price discount (or indeed a negotiated discount - like with normal cars!) and there’s not a great deal we can do about it. The one saving grace is that I absolutely love the car.

Yeh, it is what it is. I was a little annoyed having just collected mine this evening. But the thought and stress of returning and travelling to view another one in hope it’s also pristine isn’t worth the small saving to me. I mean, I could end up with no car! It’s a risk, and not one worth taking. Still excited to have mine and can’t wait to drive it more.

We await the evidence from GR Duster.

Only if you find out within 2 weeks of your purchase. After then you can complain, but you won't have a leg to stand on.
TOL told me that all cars would be at retail price.. I posted the text… IF they have done anything that is contrary to that I’ll revert to the ultimatum I gave them, they either take my car back or refund the difference between what I paid and any new “discounted” price…

I’ll leave the car on the forecourt of the dealer who delivered it if needed… They have done nothing wrong.. IF TOL are discounting cars then they can sort out what happens to my car with the dealer and I’ll spread the word far and wide about how 5hit the Toyota centralised buying experience has been

Perhaps I'm missing something but I can't see the GR86 on CARWOW.

Edit found it...

I would try not let it ruin your experience. It’s easier said than done, but you have a cool car and should enjoy it. Handing it back means you have no car and may not get the opportunity to own another at this price, or the colour you want, it may also be damaged upon viewing.

The principal of it is a little irritating of what’s happening here but I think they have surplus / unsold stock and they have to go somehow. It’s a small saving, is it worth the stress?

I love the car too but if TOL think that I’ll take a £2500 kick in the nuts in what I paid they can think again.. Legally they may not have any obligation to compensate me but I will make it my mission to shout from the rooftops about the whole experience if they want to play silly f******

Sadly it already has… if you think that £2500 is a small saving then you’re in a different bracket than I am

I was 60 yesterday at I’ve reached the point where I really won’t take any 5hit from anybody.. I’ll certainly kick up an almighty stink if there are cars available that would have saved me £2,500 …

The email they sent you has no legal implications though, so if it turns out that their email, sent in good faith, was wrong, they won't owe you anything.

Well you can certainly try that and hope that they empathise with you, and give you a discount. But they won't have to.

£2,500 is a lot of money, but so far there is no confirmed dealer selling for £30,000, so that’s currently speculation. The other things I have to factor in though are travel costs and also the return process. Not to mention the fact the new car may not be free of imperfection. If it was damaged in any way and you didn’t want it, you could then have no GR86. it’s not risk free either.

Agreed… but I’ll make a proper nuisance of myself if I have to

It’s just not on

My car had to have a dent repaired, I revisited the dealer three times to sort that and an issue with the locking wheel nuts .. it’s only 10 mins away..

An organisation as big as Toyota won’t miss £2,500 .. I will

I’m done talking about it.. I will keep my eye out for any solid evidence that there are discounted cars available though

Have a good weekend people

I think it’s fair to say that the car is brilliant and in time the nonsense will fade whilst the enjoyment of drives will continue.

Between the professional incompetence and arrogant, rude tone of comms coming out of the staff at Toyota U.K. they’ve placed themselves at the very top of the most contempt worthy businesses I’ve had the misfortune to deal with. By far the worst importer interactions and buying experience of any of the cars I’ve bought over the years.

Any conversations I have with people asking about the car going forward won’t be simply be me waxing lyrical about how fantastic it is. They’ll get a warning not to deal with Toyota U.K. due to how incompetent and obnoxious they are.

I suspect I won’t be alone in salting the earth on that front.

So last weekend’s ‘error’ in Carwow was that it had been released too early. I’ve got a message this evening from the same place saying cars are now available, after enquiring last weekend to be told they weren’t. Be interesting to see the pricing as what was originally indicated was tempting. Availability through a dealer at standard rrp is less appealing, well, unless that’s your only choice. I’ve got one that’s been sat at the dealer a month as of today due to admin incompetence, but that’s a different story! Being able to get one cheaper and cancelling mine would help ease the frustration!
