GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

I gave it a wash at my parent’s place. On my way back driving 40 on a 40 road, an Alfa Giulia overtook me while kicking up a lot of dirt and fallen leaves against my front end. I can see lots of marks on the RHS of bumper and got a chip in my windscreen. Too bad my dash cam (sold and installed by the dealer) somehow didn’t catch the moment this was done, so I can’t report this to the police. My luck these days…

You'd expect to expend Police resources, because someone overtook you and it marked your car?

That’s an interesting perspective with plenty of assumptions behind it.

I witnessed someone speeding outrageously on a single carriageway and didn’t leave me enough space while overtaking, leaving me with negative consequences. As a taxpayer, I think I have the right to report this to the police. And in a normal country, the police should investigate suspected careless/dangerous driving incidents. If the police do not investigate such incidents, just like recent statistics show, that would not be surprising to me but would be below what is expected of the police.

Of course, you are free to have much lower expectations for public servants and I would understand that.

Where does it end then?

I‘m out for a drive, overtake 9 caravans on a B road, someone’s jealous and reports me because he can?

We go out for a drive, you cut me off and…

I’m all for dangerous racer driving being reported, but when do you (or I) get to judge stupid v skills, or a reason (like racing to hold a dying hand, the house on fire.etc}.

Keep with the karma attitude, unless you see injury or damage 👍

I think your interesting perspective may be your last statement. We drive sports cars - why, because we do, we we can, because we do. Don't react when someone else does. Relish Classic FM instead.

Or as I was taught “do as you’d be done by”. I’ve been very careful when opening doors in the car park. I’m always conscious to keep two seconds from the car I overtake. I do not overtake cars already driving near/at the speed limit on country roads. And if I’m not confident to drive at the speed limit, I’d let others pass me. Anyway, be diligent and follow the Highway Code. On many occasions other drivers don’t reciprocate my kindness, but with no damages I’d let it go.

In this case thanks to the dash cam not catching the exact moment, as I said I probably have insufficient evidence and therefore I can’t report it. However, I cannot un-see the dozens of small chips made to the RHS front bumper and windscreen of my car. You can’t un-see them either once you get close to the car. So much for karma eh?

That‘s a good attitude and one I’d agree with. We drive sports cars because we love cars, and more personally, our own cars. Unfortunately in this case even Classic FM won’t be able to undo the actual damage…

Booked in for PPF and new car Detail to see it through the Winter:
Two stage machine polish; Xpel Ultimate Plus self-healing ppf to front bumper, bonnet, wings, A-pillars, wing mirrors and side skirts; Gtechniq Halo coating applied to ppf; Gtechniq 5yr ceramic coating to all other areas.
Wallet now recuperating from open heart surgery ❤️‍🩹

if you are going that far i would say do the roof as well, it seems to be my only targeted area.
One time I was even on an empty motorway and heard a thud on the roof, from across the center divide a lorry coming the other way. Got lucky in that instance but do have a very hard to notice mark up there from another hgv

Good idea but likely another £600+ to do that one area. I'll make a tentative enquiry though (grits teeth and holds breath) [emoji51]
I had just the leading edge of the roof done (most prone to stone chips), should be slightly cheaper.

I was very unlucky though and got a chip about 2mm past the end of it! Grrr.

It's gonna look fantastic, excited to see the after shots.

The marks I do have were from before ceramic coating, the paint seemed very soft and easy to mark. Since the coating I haven't had any more issues (gtechniq 10yr ceramic) and definitely had one pebble bounce around on the car which left nothing.

The coating alone i imagine helps make the top layer harder, it could be enough, but depending how much your around hgvs i would place the roof on a higher priority.

Why apply ceramic to ppf? Not just get xpel fusion and be done with it?

I’m told it’s thicker, harder to install and a lot more expensive. I believe the hydrophobic coating only has a 4 year lifex too? One of the guys in the Tesla owners club had a full wrap with Fusion Ultimate PPF and said it’s more difficult to clean. They stated that they shall be going back to Ultimate Plus and coatings next time. Maybe a case of ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ for Xpel here…

Fair enough.

My fusion covered car is dead easy to clean so maybe it's in the technique or climate.

Fortunately I didnt install it lol

I bought some plastic nut/bolt covers and fitted to door check and under bonnet.

I applied some Lanoguard with small brush to protect nut before fitting .

You need the 12mm spanner size for M8 nuts and bolts. Got mine from JLB plastics on Ebay.

A few before and after pics.
Beware, it gets addictive :)
