A major bugbear of mine (no pun intended) as our current car is white…
Never knew why so I googled it:
“it's due to flies having phototaxis, the same attraction to light that moths have. White cars reflect more light than other colors, and so flies are more attracted to it”

USA Holiday (parked up for ten days) plus two weeks of commuting and it was in desperate need of a wash. Luckily it stayed dry. The muck accumulates on the flat of the rear bumper where the clear film is, so that will be staying on
Always game for a drive out- guess you're only just up the road as well as your profile says Reading.

Yes. Did you have a ceramic coating applied per chance? Never noticed it until I had the coating done. But since then Ive had flies crawling all over it.

No, it has PPF applied all-over, not sure if that’s making any difference.
I’ve had white cars before and not noticed this, but then where I live now I have fields behind.

I think it’s more about the fields behind, you just get more flies in the countryside than you do in towns….I’ve lived on a farm all my life and any light coloured cars we’ve owned are magnets to flies in the summer. I’ve got a silver GR86 and it’s been covered in flies (and the associated fly muck) all summer. It’s funny really- I specifically went for the silver as it stays looking cleaner for longer plus it doesn’t show the very fine scratches (which I can get from driving down the lanes to the farm) but the downside is the flies love it!! Can anyone recommend a good product for removing the fly muck?!
Sorry replying to an old post as I'm looking at getting a set of these but thought I'd see if anyone had tried them out first.I discovered scratches on the door sill plastic after taking the woofer and the gf to the coast last weekend. I'm blaming doggo. Ordered these to give some protection.

Delivery is more expensive than the stickers themselves, but could be worth it as my doggo is going to often be my passenger, I have waterproof seat covers but he does like to put his paw down on the door sills when getting out.

I'm waiting on an email back from them on the delivey costs. They said it should be about $16 but it was quoting me £32.
They've offered me 5% off but I already had a code for that so pushing for more. Will update here if they reply positively.

I'm experiencing pretty much exactly the same thing. We live next to a farm and opposite a farm and next to another farm on the other side with fields all around. It's lovely but my God the flies. I'm looking out of my window now at mine (also silver) and can count between 30-40 of the little buggers on the roof.
In terms of cleaning, I've found my go-to Autoglym SRP fetches the muck off very quickly, and regular application of Autoglym EGP helps make cleaning easier with just a little additional pressure with a wash mitt when shampooing.

Disappointing to read that… I’m going from a white car to a silver GR86 and had hoped to forget the fly poop
Even though the car’s just landed at Portbury I’m still not 100% convinced I should stick with the silver.. my lad loves the blue .. I loved the red demo car I drove but that may be a step too far…
I get exactly the same thing with the flies on my electric blue. Came out to the car yesterday and it was just like Silver Fox's photo above. Drove a few miles to the gym, and after coming out of there, same thing. I guess any bright colour will attract them.
Yeah, now's the time that they begin to look for the last bit of warmth and somewhere to hibernate. Like a scene from 'The Amityville Horror', our Horse Trailer sees hundreds of them tucked into the door hinges, between the panels and rubber door seals, and up inside the hollow aluminium framework. When the temperature is below zero, it's fun to flick them out onto the floor as they just seem to bimble about completely disoriented ...

They've arrived but not had chance to fit yet. Quality seems fine for the price. There are a couple of videos on YouTube and the Stickerfab site that show how to install that give a good idea of what they are like.
Done two things this evening, gearbox related:
- Changed the gearbox oil to Millers. Really improved the gear shift on the old car. New car has a much better shift anyway, but I figured that as I had a bit of the Millers left over, I'd swap it out for the good stuff. Easy job with the car in the air.
- Replaced the transmission mount with the stiffer STI mount. A mod I did with my old car, and I recently found out the part numbers were the same, so ordered one for this car too. Installation would be straightforward, but the front pipe makes getting to two of the bolts an absolute ball ache. Really I should have dropped the front pipe, but that's a bit of a job in itself , I was running out of light, and I'm stubborn - didn't want to abandon it, and have to come back and jack the car up again another day when I already had it up on stands. In the end I managed to just unbolt the front pipe from the mid pipe, slip the bolt out of it's mounting hook, and that allowed just enough movement to get the transmission mount done....but it was an absolute chore. Had to refit the bolts blind, using the tips of my fingers and only being able to tighten them a few degrees at a time. Much swearing was had.
Took it for a drive straight away and the result is noticeable. I guess it's a combination of both the better oil and stiffer mount, but it's taken an already good shift feel and made it sublime. Shifts are smoother and feel tighter; it's hard to explain, but because the transmission is mounted more firmly, it feels like when I push the stick into a gear, there's less energy being wasted pushing the whole transmission around, and it's all being directed to pushing the gear into position....it's a bit less rubbery feeling. It almost feels like the shift feels physically shorter. At the same time, the shift feels very smooth, which I guess is the better gear oil. The car was stone cold when I drove it; it hadn't been driven at all today except a couple of minutes before and after jacking it up to do the work. But it felt as if it was fully warmed up as soon as I took it for a drive, and dropping down into second was much improved. The real test will be when the weather gets properly cold though.
I also think it's helped with the jerky acceleration when accelerating hard in lower gears; it's not eliminated it, but it certainly feels more secure and less "kangaroo" when you don't get it quite right. And the throttle feels a little less elastic when you make quick movements on the pedal. So I definitely think that the amount of slop and movement in the driveline is contributing to that. I reckon STI engine mounts would improve it further; and although I did those on the old car too, I was able to do it without removing the Ace manifold I had, whereas I believe the OEM manifold needs to come off for engine mount replacement. Don't think I'll bother.
On the whole, very pleased. I won't say it's a night and day difference, as I think the shift on the newer model is already an improvement over the older car anyway. And the part was £130 ordered from Nengun.com, so it took a couple of weeks to arrive from Japan (Fensport also sell it for ~£160, but I was willing to wait and save 30 quid). There are cheaper options such as the Whiteline positive shift kit, a poly insert which is placed in the void of the mount bushing. It was a popular mod for the old car; given the transmission mount is the same in the GR86, then one of those would also fit it. But they come with their own compromises. If anyone's interested, I might make a dedicated thread with more detail about the change, but I'll drive it for a few days first to really get the measure of it.
I was intending to give more of the underside a going over with some ACF50 while the car was up on stands. Unfortunately I ran out of daylight, so that will have to wait.

What’s the spec of the oil?

The oil I'd used in my GT86 was their TRX Synth stuff, but it's been discontinued. I looked on the Miller's product finder for the GR86, and it brought up two suitable oils - the one above, XF Premium, and another, EE Performance MTF. I emailed them and asked which one was closet to the discontinued TRX Synth - not only because I'd had positive results, but also because I had some left over and wanted to use it rather than having to buy a third bottle
(you need 2.2 litres and it's sold in 1 litre bottles, annoyingly). They said the XF Premium was basically the rebranded TRX Synth.Only annoying thing is they also changed the bottle design - the old one came with a a pull-out extendable spout, so you didn't need a pump, you could just stick that into the filler hold and upend the bottle. The new bottles have a shorter and fatter spout which won't go into the fill hole. As I still had the old bottle of TRX Synth, I just swapped the cap and spout from that to the new bottles. But bear it in mind if you buy new, you may need a hand pump of some sort.

If you don't mid me asking, what finish are your stripes? Gloss or satin? I'm planning some decals (different to yours) and was planning on matte or satin.Collected the car from Vinyl One this evening. Went back for side skirts and couple of other bits. Highly recommend for anyone in South East, the attention to detail is crazy.

I know the stripes aren’t for everyone. Was in two minds too, but glad I got them done, really complete the back of the car with black spoiler. Plus, they add 5 BHP too
