GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

If you don't mind me asking @Beans how much are they charging for this? Do they clean the underside first?

Quoted about £270

He's got an air compressor on it now so assume that's to blast out any loose muck.
It was raining a lot on the way over which I queried but apparently applying on a wet car doesn't make the slightest bit of difference as it displaces the water anyway

Iyd like to find somewhere down here that would do a similar service. I managed to spray the rear suspension arms with some ACF50 when I fitted the exhaust, but it's an inadequate job. Would happily pay someone to get the car in the air and do the whole underside.

Is it too much?

I discovered scratches on the door sill plastic after taking the woofer and the gf to the coast last weekend. I'm blaming doggo. Ordered these to give some protection.

Is it too much?

No. Unless you've also done the right one, in which case yes, way too much.

Side-splitting jokes aside, I'm assuming you've done the two circular vents, but not the centre ones? I think it looks fine, and maybe a bit of red on the gear stick would finish it off?

Today I bought one, finally. (Thanks to a fine member of this forum)

A 4am rise for a flight to London and 7hrs driving it home to Scotland means I‘m more than a little tired but first thoughts are that it’s not as loud at 70+ as I remember from my test drive BUT the windscreen steaming up when raining is a major annoyance that I don’t remember.
Perhaps I just need to figure out the right setting but seemed like the only way I could stop it steaming up was by leaving the windscreen button switched on which brought on the AC, weird.

Can‘t wait to give it a proper drive on some proper roads.

Today I did a grand total of 130 miles!

Some of this was to and from Caffeine & Machine to meet up with many fine forum members.

The rest was a trip to my mate's house and back to fetch my Reiss overshirt which I left there after getting sh!tfaced on tequila on Friday night.

A total of 37.6 mpg from the day which is pretty good I think.

Two worrying moments though. Heading back from C&M there was an almighty whallop from a stone flung on to my windscreen. Careful examination of the screen hasn't revealed any visible chips or cracks thankfully.

Then on the way to my mates an idiot pigeon flew into my passenger door mirror with sufficient force to fold it in. The mirror popped back out and all seems to be working (adjustment etc.), and I can't see any damage to the casing.

I'll have a proper look at the car tomorrow.

Just leave the AC on all the time. The effect on fuel economy is negligible, you'll be less likely to have to regas it in the future...and it will keep the glass clear in the wet.

Must say I'm jealous of those who get to own these cars in Scotland or Wales (well, maybe not Wales now :p). Down here in the south east, the opportunity for decent driving roads which aren't congested are few and far between...would love to spend a couple of days mooching around the Highlands.

I think you'll be okay. I had to take apart a GT86 mirror once and even though it's electric it's mounted on a spring pivot, I guess so that if it takes a whack and gets folded in by force it shouldn't damage the mechanism.

AC is kind of required for de-fogging in humid conditions - leave it on all the time and you'll not get fogging. Does seem worse on the 86 compared to some, but pretty normal.

Great MPG. The externally foldable mirrors is a nice thing IMHO - it doesn't take a huge amount of pressure but does protect them from too much damage. Fingers crossed all good in the light of day.

Can’t say that‘s been my experience with any previous car but if it’s just a quirk of the 86 that I need to overcome with use of the AC then it’s ok, it doesn’t rain much in Scotland anyway…

Why the long trek? Couldn't you have got one a bit closer?

AC helps remove the vapour quicker. In my current car, you can push the demist button, which will switch AC on and direct the air to the windscreen, and then you can turn the AC off, but keep the air going to the windscreen.

I’m south west and it’s definitely not open tarmac utopia here either. The overriding musical score to most of my drives would have to be….

Oh god yes, today was particularly bad driving to and from Reading to Caffeine and Machine. People doing - 10mph the speed limit, not pulling to the side or the people behind not overtaking.

Just felt like forever and not one bit enjoyable. I much prefer going out very early for Sunday drive.
The roads around here are rubbish though, even when empty

Could have collected a brand new one 20mins from the house but that’d be too easy.

Nah, I weighed up a new one vs this one which benefits from full PPF, parking sensors and 3yr service pack, for a couple of k£ less than the cost of a new one with paint, and with the the car having done less than 3k miles, the seller checking out and me spending the day travelling with my dad who I don’t see enough of, I feel like I got a decent deal, I guess.
