GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

My form for enjoyable drives continues! 35 minutes stationary due to stumbling across the Tour of England and associated road closures. All attempts to recover the job thwarted by a combination of road cyclists out on a jolly and drivers all travelling at no more than 38 on national speedlimit A & B roads 🤦🏼‍♂️
 
Did a ~220 mile round trip to collect junk from a loft - almost all 70mph motorway/dual carriageway. Car is only a week old so was expecting poor economy and some trepidation, but was surprised to find still had an indicated 90 miles remaining at the end and fill to fill only took 23.37 litres - I suspect some splash back must have triggered the fuel cut early because otherwise that was 42+mpg..

Almost as surprising was the amount of junk I could fit in the car!
 
What I have done...? - Simply enjoyed the beautiful lighting at dusk 😊

So after stopping off in Annecy for a couple of days, where the car was feeling a little neglected. Moved on to the next accommodation in the Maurienne Valley. Not a bad view from the driveway!

Looking forward to some great alpine passes over the next 4 days!

Picked up a duckbill spoiler from my local dealer. But unrelated to my car:

Saw same coloured 86 being transported on the M1. And on the same day two others (black & white) in Steven Eagell’s Toyota Northampton. They are officially commoner cars and I don’t want one anymore 🤪

I should be around there in October, let us know about any route you found interesting drivingwise. By the way if you like hairpins I suggest you the Col du petit St. Bernard from Bourg St Maurice to La Thuile. Have fun.

Col du Telegraph, Galibier, Grand Cucheron, Madeleine, Chaussy, Glandon, Croix de Fer, Mollard, Val Cenis, L’lseran.

Will give St Bernard a look and see where it fits in with the above. Thanks for the recommendation!

Morzine has some great roads in the area around it. Sadly I was in the wrong vehicle given I was there with the mountain bike earlier this summer. Also some fantastic views to be had if you fancy a day walking and jump on any of the gondolas/ski lifts. 👍🏻

That 86 is being squashed!
 
Just back from a 2 day trip, 520 miles clocked up, every mile thoroughly enjoyable. Avoided motorway where I could, travelling back from Durham across the Yorkshire Dales, then Chester, Wrexham, Shrewsbury, Church Stretton, Ludlow and back into Herefordshire. Normally stop a few times, however in the GR86 there was no need, never once felt tired, the car seems to keep you alert at all times. I think I have mastered the clutch now but still difficult short shifting and keeping below 4000RPM.
Economy was better than expected averaging 39mpg, with an average speed of 50mph over 230miles.
Just love this car, can’t fault it!

Miraculously managed to miss all the rain and storms yesterday so I took the opportunity to give it a much needed clean. I love this colour at dusk, photos never seem to do it justice.

Just fitted a rear dash cam, cable generally tucks under trim apart from a couple of push clips removed to make easier. Just lifted rear seat rather than fully remove. Used a Ring dual output adaptor fitted to side of glove box, which also has a USB power point and voltage indicator. Tried other positions,

including above glove box but catched.

Fitted with 3m double sided tape for moment, but has provision for screw mounting.
 
Some of you are aware but my Dad died a week Monday so I've been fairly quiet. Lots of frustration and not really feeling like it was right to enjoy anything, especially the GR86 and my Triple as both have to be driven with focus and precisely. Did a ride down west with a friend for breakfast with helped so thought it was fine to take the 86 up to Aberystwyth to inform family of funeral plans etc. Coming home it was wet but was behind a Golf R estate who did seem to know the roads a little so followed him. Went on the back roads to Lampeter which in the wet can be sketchy. Eyes were in stalks but it held its own. Some of it is my road knowledge too as I lived here years ago and as the run went on I was building confidence with it. You can always tell when the car in front isn't sure or pushing past their own limits when they start corner cutting which he started to towards the end. As a rule I never do it, even if it's well sighted.

After Lampeter it was quiet bar 2 overtakes so since car was dirty anyway I stuck to the back roads to get to Llandeilo then home. Now roads are bone dry here, the grip was much higher and it felt unreal. I'm still leaving enough in reserve but the whole process of a corner in this is unreal now and my time was comparable to my tuned vRS which on paper was way quicker. Got home and still was doing respectable mpg. The only shock was paying £8.80 for a chippy tea! I really am turning into my old man 😂
