GR86 Extending the waiting list?

Ordering process definitely seems a bit messed up. I registered to be kept up to date a few months go, however I never received an invitation to join the waiting list. Then on 12th July I received the email to request a car and put down £1000 deposit. Therefore they can't actually be using the waiting list.

Not sure if I’d leap to disappointment quite yet. They’ve consistently shown an inability to differentiate their arse from their elbow so it’s just as likely you’ve got two cars on the way.

That is annoying, especially as you seam to be someone that really wants one and not looking to make a few quid.

Considering people that registered interest in June are now getting the option to buy I would not be surprised if the supply of cars available is close to the point of being more than demand from genuine buyers.
Currently 19 for sale on Autotrader so guess to sell, at some point some of those will go below the second wave base price of £32.5

Hope you get sorted with Toyota, if not I think you may be able to pick one up for less than RRP.
 
Their waitlist must be a complete mess! It's been like 2 days already, and I'm still waiting for that "verify my name against the waitlist" email.

Thanks. If I missed out because I didn't join early enough, then fair enough, but to miss out because Toyota have messed up would be quite depressing. I'm also quite picky about colour choice.
 
Just so people are aware:

23/06/23 - Registered to be kept up to date.
03/07/23 - officially joined the waiting list.
12/07/23 - Request my GR email came and paid the 1k deposit. (This had to be done by 16/07 - I did mine on 12/07).
14/07/23 - Complete order email. (Cut off date to complete order is 20/07).

There will undoubtedly be a few that don’t complete imo so anyone still waiting has a chance still.

Fingers crossed for all of you waiting.
 
It looks like the demand is really low. They actually sent me a reminder email even though I already finished the order.

I think they're actually shipping a big batch of different colours to the UK even before people confirm their orders.
 
Could well be right, and they may even limit the colours further as we get towards Dec, to what has already been built.

I do appreciate you posting your details - without them I may not have questioned what's happened to my order, and I'd be none the wiser that they've completely lost my details.
 
I still haven't yet decided so someone will get a chance if I don't take it up by Sunday. Kinda irritates me because a year ago I'd have been all over this but I then bought a brand new 230i last September. It's a great car but I had 2 GT86's previously and loved them so it's still very tempting for me. If I was upgrading from my GT86 that I had last year I'd have already laid out the £1000. Another reason is how much I'd be losing on the BMW when trading in. Bought it for£44k and now for the same spec they are £46k new. Trade in on mine is around £35k. So thats £9k in a year which is painful to say the least. So I'm probably leaning towards passing on the opportunity and so hopefully one of you guys will get the "It's that time" email.

So have you registered with them now?

I reckon you still stand a good chance, as a lot of people are turning them down, due to the economic situation.

My guess would be there’s a fair amount of that going on. Mortgage rates having jumped for many over the last 12+ months, living costs in general doing the same. Add the increase in price of the car and the higher interest rate to finance and it will compound to take a fair few previously interested parties out of the game.

Then others who bought cars in the interim deciding to stay put with their current car bowing out and there are likely a fair few cars being offered to a succession of people who had been on the waiting list before finding a buyer who’s still wanting to proceed.

Possibly distorting perception of just how many cars are actually coming in this second batch?

I've basically gone back and clicked on the 'keep me informed' part. I've also re-clicked on the 'join waiting list' link that I originally had, just in case that helps. But I should have already had an invite already, and now I'd be at the back of the queue, if I even get in the queue at all. I have written to Toyota about it, but given what everyone says about their team, I'm not too hopeful.
