Is anyone else finding its set up a bit to firm or even bouncy?

Ive had a lot of occasions where Im in normal drive set up for TC and accelerate hard through the gears out of a 30 limit on what is not the most perfect of Tarmac but it is straight..ish !! and it seems to be picking up a rear wheel and the TC is blinking away and cutting the power.

Clearly the remedy for this is put it in track but as a daily I dont want to be ready to catch it on the exit of corners all the time on the way home from work, to be honest in the wet not really pushing it I can feel it starting to understeer to when not overly pushing it, maybe its just a lot faster than my MX 5 NC's but the softer set up felt a lot more predictable!!

TC is a bit over keen on crap surfaces but then other times it seems not to be at all and you can get quite an angle coming out of a T junction. Only once have I been bounced out of the seat and hit my head on the roof but car was flat, it was more me not expecting it and being tall I don't have much head clearance anyway.

Have tried to be in track mode more often, especially on drier days to learn. What annoys me with that is you can't see tyre pressures which would be nice to know when pushing on longer stretches.

What mileage are you on? Lots of people thought it was lively early on due to weather, roads and also tyres bedding in.

I loved it personally and has settled down over time.

The remedy is to consider the quality, temperature and dryness of the road surface before accelerating hard. Clearly our roads took a battering last winter.

The 86 isn't the most powerful or lightest car but having little weight over the driven rear wheels means that a driver can get caught out occasionally if they're lead footed.

The 86 was designed with less traction which I love but then it's not a daily driver for me.

It’s this that’s making me think it might actually take me longer to commute in the 86 compared to my current (much slower) car!?
If I’m running a bit late for a site meeting say 40 miles across country on a crap old day, it’s great fun to engage ‘get there as quickly as possible’ mode with your right foot. I wonder if I’m going to have to be more organised in the 86 and leave early, cos I’ll need to tiptoe at roundabouts and go easy across normally fast backroads 😢

I've been finding the same issue; loss of traction when accelerating over undulations. I reckon the stock dampers are just a bit too firm under rebound at the rear over sharp bumps...

I've tried the following, both helped significantly:

1. Over winter I sourced a set of standrd OEM 17" alloys for the GT86 and fitted them with Nokian Weatherproof 225/45R17 (snowflake marked all seasons) . Absolutely transformed the car and i almost never got TC lights coming on over bumps, also rides a lot more supple. There is a bit more understeer/vague steering feel mid corner as a trade off, but I actually loved ragging it in the rain/cold in track mode; on the stock Michelin PS4 i never trusted the car in these coditions as it was so snappy....

2. Now back on the stock wheels and PS4, I find that dropping the tyre pressure down from the stock recommended 2.4 bar massively helps the ride and traction. Currently I'm at 2.2 bar all round but i think there is room to go even lower. I think the stock 2.4 bar is far too high given the weight of the vehicle; I used to run a Merc W203 C320CDI, with 225/45R17 and a heavy V6 diesel lump up front, and the recommended pressure was only 2.1 bar there....

Still think the car will be more of a blast on the back road on 17" but with some decent summers on though!
