As the title says. Imagining there were a list of options, not Porsche customisation (or prices) but a few things that you'd choose to add if Toyota had offered, I did my first long distance drive this weekend and over the 1000 mile mark so I've had some time to mull it over while sat in BH traffic on the M6... Im excluding performance mods from this topic as very few manufactures offer BHP upgrades as the norm, so here is my list of what I'd have ticked given the options:

  • Paint colour - I like silver but would have loved the metallic red the GRY offers or a British Racing Green, think that could have made a big difference
  • Auto dipping rear mirror - its a minor faff to have to flick the dipping lever on the rear mirror like its 1980 but it seems a simple addition
  • Auto rain sensor wipers - maybe as an option pack of the mirror but inconsistent drizzle/spray does annoy me when I have to adjust the wiper sensitivity on an ongoing basis.
  • Alternative wheel colours - not a fan of black wheels, I will change them but be nice to have alternatives from factory
  • Ducktail spoiler - pending a price on fitting at the moment (with front mud flaps)
  • Sunroof - just love a sunroof!
  • Upgraded hifi - this would be almost top of the list, the standard one is really poor by modern standards.
  • Switchable sports exhaust.
I think that is all I can think of, sure there are others when someone suggests something I've not thought of.
But overall for the price the spec is great to a large extend, apple play, dual zone climate, heated seats, cruise control - most of them are charged for my other manufactures.

Interested in your thoughts.

Auto wipers would have been a nice thing to have so I would have gone for them. Other than that, different wheel colours and the option for a sports exhaust would have been on my list.

I'm a big fan of the blue, but would have certainly considered another colour, like the Supra yellow or BRG were on offer.

I would have happily paid for 17" BBS wheels and Brembo brakes upgrade.

Auto dimming rear view mirror, auto high beam headlights, auto folding mirrors and auto rain sensors would be a nice to have, without taking away from the almost classic feel of the GR86, but I would likely implode if I had to pay for those.

Not sure on the exhaust, as OEM ones often suck anyway.

I thought upgrading audio would be top of my mods list after taking the delivery, but now I'm not even sure I'll bother to do it in the future. It's good enough for what is a sports car after all, and it would be pointless without any sound insulation in the cabin anyway.

I would have ticked the following options;

✔️Different wheel colour
✔️Different interior colour/finish
✔️Audio
✔️Sports zorst
✔️Brake upgrade (brembo package kind of thing)
✔️Space saver
✔️Pop up headlights.

I would have chosen the following spec:

❌ GR Exhaust
❌ Brake upgrades
❌ Alternative black alloys
❌ Red accent interior
❌ Coloured seat belts
❌ Factory tinted windows
✔️ GR Aero kit
✔️ Mud flaps
✔️ Spoiler
❌ Remote Start (like they do with the Auto's in America)

Possibly a nicer hifi and sports exhaust (although the latter would probably be expensive as a manufacturer option).

Not bothered about the other stuff, but I suppose the wipers and mirror and a couple of other things would make a nice 'convenience pack'.

I've decided against the rear ducktail as I personally prefer the clean look, but totally appreciate that many love it.

Not on the list, but I'd have chosen a rear seat delete as a no-cost option.

From the most wanted to least

Brake upgrade would be on the very top of the list
Ducktail
Better suspension
Exhaust (if actually good)
Wider wheels set with better tyres
Hifi (if actually good)

Some great points I missed, upgraded brakes, I quite like the standard, but GRY's would have been a good upgrade or specific Brembo's as suggested.
Stop Start maybe, though I wouldnt pay for it, amazed it isnt fitted with all the emissions stuff

Agreed, i would have opted for a brake upgrade if it were available at a sensible price. £4800 for the TRD brake upgrade is ridiculous.

I would have paid NOT to have stop / start, if it had been an option. It is interesting it doesn't have it, but the original engine didn't and it's a fair bit of development (and a different battery required) to effectively retrofit the system.
The main ones for me are sound - better speakers / amp and switchable exhaust.

I would of gone for the below and as I'm tight, some should have been included within the price:
  • Paint colour - I really like the silver, but probably would of gone for a British Racing Green type colour, as below if it had been available.

  • Auto dipping rear mirror - should have been standard, but I don't care enough to pay extra for it.
  • Auto rain sensor wipers - should have been standard, but I don't care enough to pay extra for it.
  • Alternative wheel colours - bronze, with the British Racing Green, as above photo. Probably would have also paid extra for a more motorsport inspired forged wheel.
  • Ducktail spoiler - I did. 😁
  • Switchable sports exhaust - don't really care for switchable, just an AWE touring spec type sound from the factory.
  • Big brake kit - I would of probably have gone for these too.
So a performance pack from the factory consisting of wheels, exhaust and brakes and I would have been sucked into it. Maybe suspension too, but it might have compromised the on road driving??? So I could spend £40k in total and modify to get this, but I can't be arsed. 🤣🤣🤣 So much easier when the maker offers a pack and warranty is maintained without question.

I’m loving silver but something like that lovely deep Mazda red that you see would have been hard to say no to. As for auto-wipers, mirrors, etc, really not bothered.

I do wish that more of the GR/TRD gear was more widely available from the start over here. I look with envy at some of the options the Yanks have. The rear aero cover, side vent parts, even the boot tray and rubber mats would have been nice! Appreciate a lot can be sourced from Fensport or abroad, but so much easier if the car came pre-loaded!

Front parking sensors, smaller wheels, single exit bumper, park folding mirrors and a retracting steering wheel for me please, car would be nigh on perfect then

Very surprised the doors don't auto lock on drive away, even my near 20 year old MINI has that. Rain sensing wipers too would have been nice. Adaptive/switchable dampers would have been good too but those would have added to the weight and wouldn't have been a cheap option.

I have a few additional thoughts:

1. I like the whole ethos of buying a car for the advertised price with only the colour and perhaps one or two other things to choose to add. Very much a Japanese thing generally, as opposed to the German approach where a 30k car can become a 50k car with supposedly essential options added.
2. I would like a rear wiper. I'm pretty sure I am alone in wanting this, but perhaps it's something us 911 owners like having experienced it on a coupe.
3. Great thread @SJR202 , and some very interesting replies. I've enjoyed reading.

I’m so glad it doesn’t have auto lock doors, I find that infuriating when it can’t be turned off.

  • Door mirrors that auto fold when you lock the car (and unfold when you unlock).
  • Heated front windscreen - a real safety plus on cold frosty mornings.
  • Security tracker (providing that it was embedded into the cars electronics so that it couldn't be ditched easily by a thief, and didn't cost an arm and a leg in monitoring fees each year).
