GR86 Exhausts

Hmmm. Think I'd have to hear it in person to be sure...I'm pretty intrigued, from the videos I've heard it does sound pretty good but I still think it would be a bit loud for me. Looking forward to more testimonials to make me wonder if the HKS I'm waiting on is the right choice :D
It's impossible to tell whether its too loud for you or not, because I don't know what your preferences are. I personally wouldn't describe this as loud. I'd say the cold start is a touch loud, and the random 2k and 4k drone is a touch loud, but aside from that it's perfect. I'm not a fan of loud cars, so I'd be quite happy for it to be 5% quieter, but no more than that or it would be too quiet. It's ideal.

2k and 4k is the same for me too but as you say, NSL speeds in 6th and it's fine until you bury it then there a burst of drone but again I've had way worse in the past. I can't get over that driving normally it's spookily like stock which is ideal. The US videos as we surmised before are louder than ours because we have the GPF. I find it spot on and this is it being on the car less than an hour. I don't normally buy things without researching for weeks but I'm glad I just bought it as I couldn't really see a reason not to for the money. Was looking at HKS and other Japanese system for lots more. I'm glad I didn't and have the cash for something else. Even the insurance was only admin fee for telling them.
Yeah. As I said previously, there is definitely a distinct difference between the US videos and my own car. I'm glad there's someone else to back me up now, as if I was lying or something haha.

But I agree, it's a far more sophisticated experience than I expected from a backbox delete. I expected more volume all the time, and no real quality to the volume. But it's quite the opposite. It sounds like it's a much more well designed system than just stock without a muffler haha.

Yeah I understand. I'm a picky sod and whilst I want a bit more volume I dread the thought of drawing attention to myself or annoying others.

All sounds really promising with the remark, an option with helmholtz resonators like this could eliminate the drone at specific RPM without quietening it down too much. I'm going to reach out to H&S see what they can make.

That's one of the reasons I was swayed by the HKS...they've build a Helmholtz resonator into the midpipe. Mind you I am paying for it though...

H&S are the guys who made an exhaust for someone's GT86, and then went on to sell it for anyone aren't they? I'm sure they could probably just tweak that design for the new car.

Apart from the money (Yorkshireman), I also worry about attracting attention. There are times you want to put your foot down but not scream "look at me" at the same time. However, the sound of this car is crap and I like noise. Do we need a servo valve system? That sounded expensive as I typed it...

I think if anything, I’d go for a Helmholtz resonator on the stock mid pipe, and a backbox delete. That’s probably going to be the best bang for buck for those that want more volume but no drone.

There is almost no advantage on these cars to a full exhaust system, aside from the manifold, so if you can get the look and sounds you’re after for £500 or similar, then I fail to understand the purpose of a >£1000 exhaust system personally.

I've just fitted my H&S Helmholtz system from my previous GT86 onto my GR.

Very subtle noise increase, mainly a bit of bass introduced (I haven't disabled the sound enhancement yet), but what I was missing was hearing low rpm which this has just about provided.
I'd say for many it'll probably be too quiet, but for anyone looking to then modify 2nd cat / manifold it was a lovely balance in the previous car to work with those mods.

At some point I'll unplug the active sound thing to hear the full rev range.

The fit is 99%, hangs a little lower on the right side but not that noticeable, may be able to adjust with the hangers.

Has anyone come across any rumours or companies who might be able to produce a switchable sports exhaust in the pipeline? The current silent mode is OK for daily driving but it would be nice to have a switch to ramp the noise up on a B road etc?

Meant to add, Ive seen this is popular on the GT86 but rarely without additional mods, keen to keep as much stock as I can, with an added noise when really 'driving'. Does anyone have experience of a Cat 2 delete pipe with no other changes? I read on the GT86 this does not cause issues with warning lights etc (MOT friendly) but dont know if more sensors are on the GR86. https://www.haywardandscott.com/toyota-gt86/toyota-gt86-secondary-cat-pipe.html thanks

Anyone come across a site that has the GR Performance black tip exhaust that they have in the US? It comes with dual black tips that fit into the normal bumper. I am hoping there is a company that will ship out to the UK but I am having no luck so far.

I want an exhaust that is louder than stock, but not unbearable and I think this will be perfect. The alternative is HKS, but ideally I would like to keep performance mods as close to OEM as possible.

A few of you should have your Remark axel back fitted by now, any chance of some feed back on likes and loathes.

There seemed to be debate about it being quieter on UK cars due to DPF. So some sound bites would be good.

Only thing that pases me really is that I might want to do a few track days and I’m unsure if the Remark will be too loud.

@KobayashiMaru86 did a nice summary from his trip at the weekend.
Touch of drone at 2k and a little at 4k but nothing bad and it's only in relation to the rest of it. Given what I've had in the past it's more than acceptable. The exhaust sounded superb all day. Not tiring, sounded as it should do. Even idle is only slightly louder than stock which is just what I wanted. It's always going to be loud on a cold start but only lasts about 15s or so. I'm very happy with it.
I agree completely with the above. It's really difficult to say if it's quieter because of the GPF, I think it may be a smidge quieter than what I've seen online, but everyone's camera records it differently.

I think it might be on the limit for track-days, but I also wouldn't want to fit anything quieter now that I've had it for a while.

Sound clips of it to come, just need a sunny & wind free weekend to get good footage!

So, just driven the 22 miles back from Fensport after having the Cobra (non resonate) cat back exhaust fitted.
Wow! What a difference, it’s now sounding like a proper sports car should sound. I am absolutely thrilled. It is pi&&ing down with rain currently, but will try and get a clip uploaded once it dries up a bit.
And a word about Fensport. What a lovely bunch of guys, who absolutely know their stuff👍
As it was the first GR they have had on the ramp, they have taken some pics and a couple of video clips of the sound etc, and going to place on their website, so will also put a link up when done.
Overall, a good morning, and now have a massive smile on my face👍👍

I’ll be going Remark, price & discount agreed. Just need so sound samples of UK cars….

Purchased AWE touring last week. 3 Days is all it took from order to arrive in the UK and process through customs. Now it's been sitting in Tamworth for 3days
😡
Even had the delivery scheduled for today email twice.

Costs for anyone wondering:
£1100 to FTspeed and £265 to UPS for duties/taxes/fees

Am in this briefly. Shame traffic other way drowns it out but you get the idea. For the money the Remark was a no brainer. Even passed the Dad test
